Tucson Audubon Society
Tucson Audubon inspires people to enjoy and protect birds through recreation, education, conservation, and restoration of the environment upon which we all depend.

What we aim to solve
Tucson Audubon strives to support and protect southeast Arizona's wealth of birds and biodiversity. Climate change, development, and a host of other threats to the environment endanger the habitats critical to the survival of birds and other wildlife. Shifting social experience in the technological age further serves to detach people from the experiences in nature which have historically motivated them to value birds and wildlife; Tucson Audubon is also working to address this challenge.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Our mission statement says it all: Tucson Audubon inspires people to enjoy and protect birds through recreation, education, conservation, and restoration of the environment upon which we all depend. Our vision is a southeast Arizona where the birds are protected, appreciated, and flourishing along side the people and other living things of our region.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Tucson Audubon approaches these challenges from every possible strategic angle: recreation (field trips, the Southeast Arizona Birding Festival, the Paton Center for Hummingbirds), education (classes for youth and adults, a quarterly news magazine, online resources, a local nature expo, an annual lecture series, a Habitat at Home program for empowering the community to support birds in their yards), conservation (advocacy, science-based analysis of local habitats and bird populations, science-based programs to support birds) and restoration (installation and maintenance of native plants, corrective engineering of damaged waterways).
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
We have 30+ highly skilled staff members engaged in activities guided by our mission to accomplish our goals. Our Mission is further supported by more than 400 trained and engaged volunteers.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Over the course of its 70 year history, Tucson Audubon has been instrumental in a multitude of conservation successes for southeast Arizona. We currently maintain 280+ acres of land at 5 sites under intense professional care. Our advocacy work supports the San Pedro, Santa Cruz, and Sonoita Creek Waterways. We maintain two small preserves: the 1.4 acre Paton Center for Hummingbirds with an annual visitation of 15,000 and the 20 acre Orpha Mason Center for Ironwood Tree Preservation.
