What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Toy Program

The Guild makes wooden toys that are used for the emotional and physical therapy of young children in hospitals of Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee. We make approximately 15000 toys per year to donate to these organizations.

Population(s) Served

Annually the Guild builds all the cabinetry for a Habitat for Humanity home in the Birmingham, AL area. Usually this home is one of the showcase homes provided during the Holiday season. The Guild provides both kitchen and bathroom cabinets.

Population(s) Served

Senior skilled woodworkers mentor new or less accomplished Guild members in the art of woodworking. Topics covered include bench making, table saw instruction, lathe fundamentals, pen turning, hand tools - sharpening and techniques, and furniture building to name a few.

Population(s) Served

Nationally recognized individuals in the field of woodworking are invited to the Guild to teach Guild members classes on woodworking topics and techniques. Afterward the members usually have a class for those who attended the presentation to practice what they have learned by building a piece of furniture or some other item appropriate to the class.

Population(s) Served

This program provides financial assistance to Guild members to further their woodworking skills by attending a recognized class or school. The recipient must be a Guild member in good standing who has renewed his membership for the second year or more. The recipient is required to give a presentation at a Guild meeting to describe the education, skills, or techniques they received from the class. Tuition is limited and requires partial payment by the recipient.
