What we aim to solve
Gender and racial equality, bias and stigma about the black father and the back family structure overall. We are shaping the way resources are been given to the African American family, we encounter many issueswhere the resources are solely for the mother and the children but leaving the black father behind, these had caused a rupture in the African American family by removing the black father out of the home, in order word they tell the mothers that the benefits are just for her and the children not for the male directing this mother in desperate need to file child support on theses fathers who are present and in the child lives, forcing the black man to leave his family in order for them to be stable, ones the black father leaves the home he is been categorize as an inadequate individual and not able to meet the social standards that sadly has been implemented by a group of an independent woman who believes the black men lack inadequacy and unresponsible to care for his family.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
No Father left behind
Family Within Us (FWU) is a Decatur-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to build strong family foundations with no fathers left behind. FWU supports young parents regardless of marital status as long as both parents want to be in the children's lives. We are committed to helping families provide for their children, rebuild a strong family foundation, and recover together. Accordingly, we are requesting $100-$5000 in donations to fund Project Lift, an exciting new program to train and deploy advocates to lead male heads of households on how to obtain temporary living resources, further their education, gain employment, and most importantly maintain employment in order to provide for their families.
A growing body of research is revealing systemic factors preventing fathers from being a source of support to their families. For many, the crisis of American father figures displaced from their children’s lives has become a matter of life or death.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Another goal is to build an apartment community for young adults with children regardless of the parent’s marital status. The apartment community will be 11 acres and include:
• an art gallery used as a community safe place that displays African American hairstyles,
• a greenhouse to teach agriculture and technology to the community,
• grocery and retail stores,
• a community recreational and educational center for after-school programs and educational and financial planning workshops with a three to five-year stability living plan.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Family within Us is dedicated in educating, facilitating, advocating, and providing living resources for the black father to be self-sufficient in order to protect and provided for their families.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
To meet our organization's goal we have a great inspiring leader, local resources and partnerships. We would have more than enough resources to share with the community furthermore, we have access to grants to hired volunteers and secure an administration staff who are trained on speed to share our missions; With such collaboration ,We are able to guarantee customer focus and innovation.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
We are in process to purchase a residential home as we partner with Sleepout.org to help the high school and college students who are homeless twice a month. Covenant House empowers young people to overcome homelessness and trafficking by providing them with safe housing, food and clothing, and relentless support. which includes job training, education opportunities, legal aid, health care, and mental health counseling as well as birthday parties, movie nights, and community meetings. We are now in the search for a commercial building for our food pantry and clothing distribution center. This way we can continue to make a connection with the community we served and put the funding to use. As of today, we had obtained our government funding certification for the fiscal year (FY) 2022 Community Development & Financial Institutions Program (CDFI Program) and Native American CDFI Assistance Program (NACA Program) and we are going to utilize those funds for our community development project. We had reach a total of 6,000 households since 2021. Currently Serving 30-50 families per month. We are operating as a virtual resource center with dropped-off and delivery services.
What's Next?
Implementation of the jail release program.
US Body Shop
In partnership with Lethal Weapon Ministery, and in support of the Innocence Project we are involved in what happens next to the released inmate who is a father after being placed back into society and those who had been wrongly incarcerated.

- We have long-term strategic plans and measurable goals for creating a culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
- We have a promotion process that anticipates and mitigates implicit and explicit biases about people of color serving in leadership positions.
- We seek individuals from various race backgrounds for board and executive director/CEO positions within our organization.
- We have community representation at the board level, either on the board itself or through a community advisory board.
- We help senior leadership understand how to be inclusive leaders with learning approaches that emphasize reflection, iteration, and adaptability.
- We engage everyone, from the board to staff levels of the organization, in race equity work and ensure that individuals understand their roles in creating culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
