Hugs and Pups Strolls

As our primary activity, HAPPEE teams of one “Pupper” or dog owner, one dog, and one or two Huggers (sometimes with candy!) “stroll” for an hour or two on the UNC-Chapel Hill campus with a handheld “Hugs & Pups” sign and/or wearing a Hugs & Pups t-shirt. Students can play with a team’s dog for as long as they want and are offered a hug before they leave.

We don’t stroll very far; our teams generally hang out in a visible location in the middle of campus, where students know to expect us. We also use Glympse to publicize our location. During the school year, when the COVID pandemic allows, at least one team is on campus, for an hour or two, four days each week. Our estimated average is that each team on campus interacts with 300 or more students on each of our three weekday strolls and anywhere from 25-100 students on our weekend stroll.
