Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Pando Science Committee
Despite being the world’s largest tree, we know very little about Pando. Whether it is the atmosphere above or the ground below, there is much to learn about this botanical wonder. In 2022, Friends of Pando will bring together scientists from the worlds of Chemistry, Botany, Geology, Biology, Ecology, GIS, Land Management and Recreational Sciences to produce the “Pando Priority” paper. A collaborative scientific document establishing the rationale for broad, interdisciplinary study of this natural wonder connecting organizations who want to act, with teams ready to undertake baseline studies to understand the tree in peer reviewed papers.
Pando Artist In Residency Program
The history of art and conservation are deeply intertwined. As a recent discovery that was not fully verified until 2008, we lack a record of the human experience of living in a world with Pando. Each year, working with various Partners, Friends of Pando employs artists working in a variety of mediums to spend time with Pando to document the human experience to inspire stewardship and archive those works so they may be enjoyed for generations to come.
Pando Ambassador Program
The Pando Ambassador Program is first-of-its-kind field monitoring program to monitor and protect this natural wonder. In 2022, Friends of Pando will hire, train and support a dedicated agent to undertake passive monitoring of the tree, work to repair and sustain protective fencing, capture data on utilization, observing wildlife activity and documenting the year in the trees life. Work we believe is critical to development of sound policies to ensure the tree can be enjoyed for generations to come.
Kids for Pando
Kids for Pando is an educational program geared toward K-12 students that invites teachers, community leaders, students and their families to learn about Pando and take part in stewardship effort to inspire the next generation of scientists and land managers.
Friends of Pando Educational Workshops
In order to educate the public about this natural wonder, Friends of Pando host a variety of educational workshops, speaker series and community events to help people of all ages learn about Pando.
