What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Legal Department
Our litigation work serves to defend the rights and liberties of individuals when they have been violated. We have cases in rights for incarcerated people, voting rights, education equity, first amendment rights, cannabis de-scheduling, policing, and more. See below for more information on our cases. We are preparing to litigate a case to protect the right to receive accommodations for Deaf people who are detained. We also sued NDOC and the Nevada Division of Forestry after detainees working as firefighters were injured with second degree burns, after not being given proper equipment and not given proper medical care thereafter. ACLU of Nevada has filed a lawsuit against Fremont Street Experience, LLC, and the city of Las Vegas for restricting adults aged 18 to 21 from being on a public street to prevent First Amendments rights of Nevadans to be violated by private corporations and city government. We won a case against Nye County for not complying with state election laws.
Community Engagement
Not only does our Outreach department work to engage community members, it also strives to form and cultivate community partnerships. We partner up with organizations and leaders when our goals align in protecting civil rights and liberties. We work with key labor unions, progressive activists, and even unlikely allies if that is what it takes to move the needle. In 2023, we attended Pride events in Pahrump, Reno, and Las Vegas to extend our reach into every corner of Nevada. Our most recent community partnerships are with the Las Vegas Aces WNBA and Majestic Repertory. Attending community events and providing sponsorships allows us to support other organizations while expanding our network.
Emerging Leaders
The Emerging Leaders are a youth innovative youth-driven program under the ACLU of Nevada that focuses on building the leaders of tomorrow through the cultivation of advocacy, leadership, and civic engagement. Our program provides young adults (ages 16-22) with the opportunity to promote social change and raise awareness about civil rights issues through leadership development, advocacy engagement, and professional development.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Our work is grounded in the principles of liberty, justice, democracy and equality. The ACLU of Nevada works in three areas: public education, advocacy, and litigation when necessary.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Our public education efforts serve to help the public understand their liberties, rights, and responsibilities. Our advocacy efforts serve to inform and educate public officials about liberties and rights. And our litigation work serves to defend the rights and liberties of individuals when they have been violated.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
We advocate, educate, and organize Nevadans through our advocacy and outreach departments. When necessary, we litigate to defend Nevadans when their civil liberties and rights are violated.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
