What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
1) Community Drop-In Center.
Our Community Center Drop-In is from 11am - 7pm Tuesday through Saturday. We strive to give our facility a warm and comfortable atmosphere, where one can truly feel at home. We offer public computer and Internet and print services as well as free Wi-Fi for people with laptops. Coffee is brewed daily with fresh popcorn available. All are welcome to come in and read a book from the David Parks LGBTQ Library or lounge on the sofas to watch a classic LGBTQ movie or documentary on our big screen HDTV. Our video library is well stocked. We also offer a Fitness Center where people over 18 may come and work out.
All are welcome to just spend time at A Rainbow Place. We offer free coffee, tea and popcorn, and plenty of soft, comfy furniture to relax in. Books and magazines are plentiful, too. Come! Enjoy! Relax!
2)Youth Empowerment Services
Rainbow Place is dedicated to providing the LGBTQ youth and their allies with opportunities for support and community building in a safe, drug and alcohol free environment. We offer a place to end the isolation for youth and instill the creativity and confidence that is rightly theirs. One of the main ways we are implementing this is through our Youth and Young Adult Groups, which are meeting Wednesday nights, 5:30 - 7:00pm.
3)David Parks Liabrary
Being Nevada's largest LGBTQ specific library, our goal is to offer a well rounded yet wide variety of books in all subjects under the LGBTQ umbrella. We have recently moved our library into a room of its own, where people can go sit and read at their leisure or find a book to check out. We hope to, within the near future completely digitize our list of books and format the list into a search engine for the website and checking out services.
4)HIV Education and Health Awareness
The purpose of this program is to work with the HIV+ community by offering ways to increase healthy living. We also offer programs such as Wellness Through Performing Arts Group for those who are HIV+ and their allies to increase personal power and further education within all community's about this disease and the day to day life of those living with it.
A Rainbow Place will offer FREE HIV and Syphillis testing four times throughout 2008. ARP is a member organization of the Northern Nevada Outreach Team.
5) Mental Health Services for Individuals, Couple's and Families
ARP has clinical staff and consultants to provide a variety of mental health services to adults, families, adolescents and children. We provide peer counseling, life coaching, social skills training, therapy services and comprehensive case management services.
