The Grace Network

We all deserve to start our day with Grace and Dignity.

Glenview, IL   |  Www.gracenetworkchi.org

Mission

The Grace Network was developed to give direct aid to at-risk students and the teachers and social workers that support them. We provide health & hygiene-related items to schools, who in turn distribute the items directly to students who may be facing difficult at-home situations and/or homelessness.

Notes from the nonprofit

We are a young organization with lots of growth ahead of us. We have established a great need among Chicagoland students facing housing instability and strive to support their comfort, happiness and ability to remain in school regardless of their housing instability.

What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

“More than 50,000 CPS students will experience a lack of permanent housing at some point in their education, which equates to over 15% of all CPS students,” explained Sarah Airola, co-founder of The Grace Network. “Some of our partner schools have 20-25% of students under the Students in Temporary Living Situations (STLS) designation at any given time.” While Chicago Public Schools make great efforts to support STLS students through many free resources and aid, we believe in providing an on-site source of health and hygiene items to compliment current CPS offerings aimed to keep high-risk students committed to return to school every day.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Our goal is to help schools give their students a comfortable and safe environment to learn and thrive, regardless of the difficulties they are facing in their home life. We feel strongly that regardless of a student's adversities at home, they should have access to a safe space at school where they feel comfortable among their peers. The more we can do to support at-risk youth, the better chance we have of them returning to school day after day.

We have grown from 2 to 40 school in our short 1.5 years since inception, uncovering a need that is not going away. One of the most important assets we have is a close relationship with our school partners and do our best to find solutions for problems a they arise.

Our core focus is to provide health and hygiene items to our 40 school partners 3 times a year, but that has been supplemented with additional solutions such as: washer/dryer donations, prom dress/suit donations and emergency grocery card donations.

As we add more schools, our network will go as will our need for funds. We also hope to add some supplemental programing (such as: washer/dryer, bus passes, grocery gift cards) to our basic health/hygiene packages.
