Chess in Education Initiative
An alliance of chess-training organizations has joined forces to launch the Chess in Education Initiative in the United States. The group, calling itself the CIE Coalition, was formed in response to the rapidly growing adoption of new Chess in Education (CIE) programs and methods by school systems around the world.
The Initiative seeks to build awareness (with a particular focus on the US) of advances in the chess training tools and education-focused best practices that persuaded educators across Europe to bring chess into their classrooms.
The CIE Coalition seeks engagement with local education and chess training service providers looking to expand their extracurricular chess training programs into the classroom by engaging with educators through the use of education-centric training programs.
More information is available on the chessineducation.org website.
Professional Development and Certification
Chess in Education - US provides professional development offerings for educators and chess coaches who want to learn the methods of Chess in Education (CIE) to offer chess programs for students that align with educational goals. Our array of courses includes:
1. Introduction to Chess in Education
2. Chess in the Classroom – Level 1 Certified Teacher Training
3. Chess in the Classroom – Level 2 Certified Teacher Training
The Certified Teacher Training (Levels I and 2) targets teachers seeking to integrate chess into the classroom. Participants are engaged in a hands-on experience designed to introduce the game of chess and demonstrate deliberate classroom connections.
