Mission

The Bainbridge Island Land Trust’s mission is to conserve and steward the diverse natural environment of Bainbridge Island for the benefit of all. To achieve this goal, the Bainbridge Island Land Trust acquires interests in land having significant or potentially significant conservation values such as scenic vistas, wetlands, open spaces, tidelands, forest, unique plant and animal habitats and stream and wildlife corridors. We work with willing private landowners to protect their land using land protection agreements called conservation easements. We also work with a variety of partners to acquire land for parks, trails and public use.

Conservation, Stewardship & Education/Outreach

BILT's programs include: (1) Conservation, which consists of working with willing private landowners to create new conservation easements; partnering with environmental NGOs or government agencies acquire large parcels of land for public parks; and acquiring conservation lands through donation or purchase for management by BILT.  (2) Stewardship, which consists of annual monitoring and stewardship of all BILT-owned properties and conservation easements.  And (3) Education/Outreach, which includes educating the public about our local ecology, conservation and stewardship through workshops and our annual environmental conference, nature walks, community weed pulls, booths at various community events, sponsorship of the Sakai School's NatureMapping program, and our annual Native Plant Sale.
