HOPE COMMUNITY RESOURCES INC
Supporting People with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities since 1968
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
The purpose of Hope is to assist people who experience disabling conditions in living a life with meaning. Unfortunately, society often perceives a disability as a negative and devalues people who experience one. Hope counters this societal perception through inclusive measures allowing community to see the good and strength of others.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Willow Ranch
At Hope we recognize the importance of nature, culture, and outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, trapping, and other subsistence pursuits. These opportunities are incorporated into support plans as requested by support recipients and their families. The Willow Ranch is an example of Hope providing opportunities for people experiencing disabilities to actualize their dreams. Situated on 70 acres with an infrastructure that supports hunting, fishing, trapping, animal husbandry, gardening, wood-working, mechanics, raising and selling livestock, and many other aspects associated with living off the land in a rural environment, the program promotes self-sufficiency, independence and full lives.
Kodiak Recreation Center
Our Kodiak recreation program runs year-round, Monday through Friday, and offers community-based activities such as arts and crafts, biking, gardening, cooking, swimming, hunting, fishing, boating, skiing, hiking, karaoke, games, barbecues, and much more. Whatever your interests, we have opportunities for individuals of all ages and abilities to experience all that Kodiak has to offer!
Kenai Intentional Neighborhood
The Kenai Intentional Neighborhood, established in 2018 through the collaboration of Hope, families, and community advocates, is a thoughtfully designed residential community located on 20 acres just outside Soldotna. It includes five single-family homes, a triplex, and the central Kenai Community Center. Each home features a live-in Resident Manager who supports two individuals, creating a supportive and balanced living environment.
Day Habilitation
Depending on the individuals needs, Hope offers assistance with skill building in independent placements and community-based opportunities. We also offer assistance with skill development that assists a person in participating fully in their community of choice.
Kenai Community Center
We believe in building a strong, inclusive community through a wide variety of meaningful activities and shared experiences. Our diverse programs include arts and crafts such as painting and pottery, hands-on cooking classes that explore international cuisines, and gardening workshops focused on local, sustainable practices. Health and wellness are also central to our mission. We offer yoga, boxing, and general fitness sessions to promote physical and mental well-being. For outdoor enthusiasts, seasonal activities such as fishing, hunting, and nature walks are popular offerings. Social and cultural events like storytelling nights, Native celebrations, and holiday parties provide moments of connection and joy throughout the year.
Supported Living
Hope Community Resources offers a wide variety of services throughout the state of Alaska. In addition to operating more than 60 assisted living homes, we provide in-home supports, child and family services, respite, day habilitation, foster care, Deaf supports, mental and behavioral health supports, intensive care services, and recreational and educational programs to people across Alaska. All of our programs focus on the person and assisting them to live full and meaningful lives in the community of their choice.
Hope Studios
Hope Studios is a collaborative art studio for artists within the community who experience intellectual or developmental disabilities. The mission of Hope Studios is to provide artists the space and opportunity to create, while allowing them to explore their form of self-expression through different mediums. It is also Hope's mission to elevate the talents that develop through self-expression to becoming a viable part of the art community in Anchorage. We believe that it is possible to enhance people's quality of life through participation in the arts.
The Lesko Discovery Center
The Lesko Discovery Center at Hope is the hub for all recreation and educational programs in the Anchorage area. The Center provides inclusive activities and classes for all ages, including after-school activities for children and teens, a Summer Camp program, and art and craft classes.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Hope aims for full inclusion and equal access to community for people who experience a disability. We believe an inclusive community is better for all and that each of our lives is enhanced through interactions with all members of our communities. Hope wishes to provide sustainable supports that are provided at the least level of assistance needed, thereby enhancing independence. Skill acquisition across life's developmental areas is a primary focus area.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Hope provides a wide variety of supports and services, including residential, employment, recreational, spiritual, and mental/emotional/physical health. Each of these service components are provided through typical community entities such as faith groups, clubs, local stores, community physicians, and community employment opportunities. Hope maintains a philosophy of supporting people in experiencing community connections and then phasing paid supports out and replacing them with more natural community supports. As a not-for-profit, Hope utilizes a volunteer Board of Directors in setting strategic oversight goals for the organization.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Hope maintains seven regional offices that function as a hub community in support of outlying areas. This allows people to be supported at home with family, friends, and culture intact. We utilize an extensive training and staff development program that emphasizes our value driven organizational culture. The culture of Hope is comprised of agency beliefs, values, mission, vision and the expectations we hold each other to meet.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Hope is entering its 50 year of service and support to Alaskan's who experience a disabling condition. We are the largest service provider within the State of Alaska and the only one that offers services on a state wide basis. We were selected for a national award for inclusive practices; a national and state award for workplace wellness; and a city award for diversity. We have a very wide array of residential options available on a state wide basis, as well as for medical wellness supports. We anticipate expanding our employment, mental health, and behavioral health services to the more rural areas within the State of Alaska.
