What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Interior Mission
AMC began its work in these northern communities in 2019. Servant Event Teams from lower-48 communities partner with local leaders and elders to conduct Vacation Bible School Camps, Sports Camps, and Fine Arts Camps. Work and Witness projects are numerous, as well.
Supply boxes are sent out multiple times each year to communities in need.
In April of 2021, Nathan Milan came on board as Interior Lutheran Mission Center Coordinator. Based in Fairbanks, Nathan serves the communities of the Interior through year-round ministry.
Road System Mission
There are very few roads in comparison to the vast area of Alaska. But scattered along the road system, there are many small communities. Alaska Mission for Christ seeks to have a bold witness to the Gospel in these communities through Vacation Bible School, Sports Camps, and other activities focused around community health.
Southeast Alaska Mission
Alaska Mission for Christ serves the 30+ isolated communities of Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian people in Southeast Alaska. Pastor Aaron Spratt has been called to serve the over 70,000 sq. mi. of the Southeast from Yakutat in the north to Metlakatla in the south and every community in between. Only two communities in Southeast Alaska are connected to the road-system. This presents a tremendous challenge to travel to the many disconnected communities of this area. Through the use of planes and ferries, pastor Spratt and short-term mission teams serve the people of the Southeast and deliver the Word of God to them.
Southwest Mission
AMC started work in SW Alaska in 1998 when a missionary couple began a houseboat ministry on the Kuskokwim River. This ministry has grown approximately 16 Servant Event Teams each summer. Teams spend from one to two weeks in a community serving the community in various ways. AMC works closely with the local schools, village government, and churches to secure an invitation into the village for summer short-term mission teams. Summer programming by these teams is eagerly anticipated by the village residents each year. AMC leadership is currently working towards opening a Mission Center in Bethel that will serve the holistic and unique needs of the region through God's Word, Sacraments, and human care.
Lay Leadership Training
Through partnership with the Alaska Circuits and the Northwest District, Alaska Mission for Christ is proud to be a part of training up local individuals for service to our Lord. Classes are taught by area pastors in both theological and practical ministry, so that these students might be equipped for every good work.
The Lay Leadership Training students come from all areas and backgrounds; fulfilling vocations in areas other than full-time ministry. Many are hoping to deepen their knowledge of Scripture to grow in faith and serve their neighbors through practical application of what is learned.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Alaska Mission for Christ is a nonprofit Lutheran ministry established to proclaim and practice the love of Jesus in Alaska.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
We use volunteers that make long-term commitments to serve in remote Alaskan communities. We believe that the Gospel is best communicated in the context of authentic, loving relationships. We also put long-term missionaries in communities to deepen our outreach and the impact of our work.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Currently, AMC has a total of two full-time and six part-time staff members, a large Board of Directors and approximately 500+ volunteers who serve each year. Not only do we partner with local congregations and agencies, we partner with many in the Lower-48 as well.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Our first Lutheran Mission Center was established in 2021 and many new programs have and continue to be developed for ministry.
