What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

Lower Bodoi, a remote area on the North Coast of Mombasa, Kenya, with a population of approximately 2,000, is practically inaccessible due to lack of passable roads. For the majority of the residents, there is no running water, no electricity and no indoor plumbing. The community has poor sanitation, and no health clinic or other medical facilities. They have little access to government resources. Teenagers and young adults in the community have faced a high risk of early pregnancies, illiteracy, and joblessness. With few having a regular income, the people of Lower Bodoi survive on subsistence farming and carrying produce to the market to sell. Climate change has worsened the situation with frequent and more prolonged droughts. In Kenya, public school is nominally “free”, but families must still pay the cost of books, registration, lunch, and uniforms.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Friends of Angaza Nuru partners with the families of Bodoi, Kenya, to fulfill the three Pillars of our Mission: 1) Promote education 2) Address food insecurity, and 3) Build relationships while illuminating the path with Christian love.

We provide scholarships to local primary and secondary schools as well as to the Angaza Nuru School in the village. We also work with the community to develop solutions for food insecurity.

We have over 10 years experience funding these initiatives and working with our partners in Kenya since 2012 (when the organization was founded as ministry of Priest Lake Presbyterian Church)

Since 2012 (when the organization was founded as part of Priest Lake Presbyterian Church) we have provided more than 1,000 scholarships for students. As a new non-profit we look forward to increasing our impact in the upcoming years!
