Healing Journey

The Healing Journey project will present conferences beginning in March 2023 to 75 girls ages 12 to 18, at no cost to participants.

Workshop #1 is led by Niesha Davis, MSW, LCSW, CAMS-11, CCTP, and owner of two mental health practices in Kern County. Each child will receive a copy of her book, "Your Story Does Not Define You, A Healing Journey from Trauma Through Expression and Self-Affirmation" along with a personal journal. During the conference, the participants will be guided through the book and taught how to apply the tools in it. They will also be provided with resources, including mentors to support their journey to wellness.

Workshop #2: Author, Robin Hunt will introduce and guide participants on how to use her new book, "Magazine Jungle: Organize Your Magazine Pile". Vision boards are a collection of images and/or objects that are a visual representation meant to motivate and inspire individuals to set and manifest goals.

Student-Athletes are provided with the opportunity to train and to compete at a high level, an opportunity that they would otherwise be excluded from based on ability to pay, and/or demographic location. While volleyball is the primary sport, athletes will be introduced to a variety of sports, including basketball, indoor tennis and indoor soccer.

Vital core values are included into the design of the program. Athletes will be guided on how to develop and apply tools and strategies, including goal-setting, time-management, leadership skills. Athletes will be introduced to the concept of, "food and water as fuel." This instruction will focus on what, and how to eat around competition. The underlining goal is that athletes learn how their bodies process what they put into it.
