Population(s) Served

We teach students to develop three important critical thinking skills will allow them to make the most informed decisions now and in the future.

Stop-and-Think® helps students:

Examine Their Influences: There are many different messages about sex, from a wide variety of people. Not all of these messages tell the same story. Some messages may not have the best interests in mind and could deliver intentionally misleading information.
Consider Personal Values: Learn what it means to treat others with respect and recognize that their decisions can affect their character and reputation. Prioritize goals and create boundaries that allow those goals to be realized.
Determine Pros And Cons: Take time to look at all sides of an issue before determining the best course of action.

Population(s) Served

We test for two of the most frequently reported bacterial infections: Chlamydia and Gonorrhea. We offer lab-quality urine tests and are able to collect one sample during an appointment. The process is simple and easy. The sample will be processed at an off-site lab and results are typically available within a week of testing. We will schedule a follow-up appointment to communicate the results in a confidential environment.

Goals & Strategy

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

• Reduce the risk of unwanted pregnancy and the need for abortion.
• Help women begin their pregnancies with a healthy start.
• Get women into an OBGYN provider as soon as possible
• Detect and treat STI promptly.
• Teach students to use excellent decision-making skills when making their choices about sex.

If a woman thinks she is pregnant, she is encouraged to come in for a free, lab-quality, urine pregnancy test. Our pregnancy test is 99% accurate. Appointments are easy to make and always free and confidential. Walk-ins are welcome!

Pregnancy decisions can be difficult to make. It is important the woman make the choice that is best. Every woman deserves the right to make her own decision based on what is most important to her and not on outside pressures. At Dove Medical, you are in control of your appointment. She is assigned a decision coach to help he look at all of her options.

Women face a variety of pregnancy decisions. Having a Limited Obstetrical Ultrasound will provide three critical pieces of information essential in making a pregnancy decision. During the ultrasound, they will learn:
• Location of the pregnancy
• How far along they are
• If there is a heartbeat

According to the CDC, nearly 20 million new cases of gonorrhea, chlamydia, and syphilis occur each year in the United States. Meaning that if a woman is having unprotected sex, she is at risk of contracting an STI. It is essential to have regular testing and get treatment when needed. We offer free and confidential STI testing to our patients with a pregnancy test.
All ultrasounds are interpreted by a Physician to make a diagnosis.

STOP-AND-THINK® is a 90-minute presentation that will review the critical thinking skills middle or high school students will need to make positive choices. STOP-AND-THINK® provides students with an open, judgment-free environment where they are free to speak their minds and share their opinions about sex without the guilt or anxiety associated with those conversations. At the core of the presentation are three key critical thinking skills:

Examine Influences

In today’s society, students are exposed to varying messages about sex. They will learn to look critically at those sources. They will learn to ask the following questions:

Who or what am I receiving information from?
What are they telling me?
What are the motives behind the message?
Does this person have my best interest in mind?
Consider Personal Values

Each student is unique and has individual goals and values. Those goals and values should be considered prior to making any major decision. Before having sex, it is important for students to consider their future. During the presentation students will have an opportunity to consider the following questions:

What are my life goals? What do I want to accomplish?
What are my character goals? Who do I want to be?
What type of relationship do I want to be in? What is important to me?
Students will determine whether the choices they make will bring them closer to or take them further away from their goals.

Determine Pros and Cons
The STOP-AND-THINK® presentation asks students to weigh the possible pros and cons of the decision to become sexually active. Through this analysis, students can determine the long and short term benefits.

Dove Medical has a strong history of sustainability and growth. We have over 35 years of experience in the community and a strong donor base. We function utilizing a Medical Team which is comprised of local Physicians and our medical staff. The Board of Directors represents many different aspects of our community and has provided solid leadership as we have moved forward.

As mentioned above, Dove Medical has experienced growth not only in our patient load but also in return visits.
• In 2011 Dove Medical added Pregnancy diagnosis through limited obstetric ultrasound,
• In 2013 we purchased and remodeled our facility.
• In 2017 we paid off that facility.
• In 2017 we added STI Testing
• In 2018 we received a grant from the Department of Health and Human Services for our Stop and Think Program
The Next Step is to add a Nurse Practitioner to increase the services we can offer our patients.
