What we aim to solve
Our work helps educators bring students together to engage in innovative STEM, art, music & wellness opportunities regardless of skill level, gender, interests, culture, language or socioeconomic status, and to enhance learning options for all public-school students. The Foundation also subsidizes fees for at-risk students to participate in athletics and for high need schools to secure the educational resources they need. Through our classroom grant program, the Foundation focuses on increasing accessibility for low-income/high need students who may not have exposure to technology or support for academics at home. Without our efforts, many of the educational STEM, art, music & wellness opportunities, specifically at high need schools, would remain unfunded and would not be implemented. We also support scholarship opportunities for high risk and Latino seniors in Bend, La Pine and Sunriver.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Activity Fee Support Program
Activity Fee Scholarships have for 35 years directly benefited local middle and high school students in need by providing financial aid for participation fees associated with sport/club activities. Studies show that investing in after-school programming yields a high return to society in reduced juvenile crime and at-risk behaviors. Such programs also enhance student achievement with improved school attendance, betterment of test scores, higher graduation rates, increased likelihood to pursue college, and the development of positive peer/mentor relationships. Additional benefits for these activities include advocacy of healthy lifestyles.
Classroom Grants Program
Classroom Grants provide invaluable resources for our local public schools. On an annual basis, the foundation provides support to educators district-wide for high impact, academically proven projects with solid implementation and evaluation plans. Funding priorities focus on Title 1 schools and those with a high percentage of students on Free & Reduced Meals. Our goal is:
◦ To provide tools for teachers, with an emphasis on technology and science
◦ To support art and music in classrooms
◦ To enhance community and parental involvement in our schools
Latinx Scholarships
Provide scholarships to graduating Latinx students for higher education or trade school plans in partnership with Oregon Community Foundation and C.O. Latino Partnership Association.
Perseverance Awards
Recognizes at risk youth who have persevered through difficult life obstacles to graduate and have future higher education or trade school plans.
