LAWYERS CAMPAIGN FOR EQUAL JUSTICE
Justice is a Right, Not a Privilege
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
Every Oregonian deserves a justice system that it accessible and accountable. CEJ works to ensure that our state's civil justice system meets the needs of Oregon's poor and elderly populations.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Annual Fund and Grants to Legal Aid
Almost 3,000 Oregon lawyers and related individuals and organizations make contributions to the campaign to support Oregon's statewide legal aid programs. Legal aid provides civil legal services to the poor in areas such as domestic violence, housing, income maintenance and consumer-related issues. Approximately 250 volunteers assist in the campaign's annual fund drive.
Education and Outreach
Educating lawyers and the community about access to justice and how legal services for the poor are delivered in Oregon is a key program of the campaign. The campaign educates the community through seminars held at law firms, numerous state and county bar associations, local legal aid offices, and through newsletters and publications.
Other Funding Initiatives
The campaign seeks to expand resources for legal aid programs through foundation support and state and federal funding. The campaign provides grant research and writing support for legal aid programs and assists with grassroots support for state and federal funding.

Goals & Strategy
Learn about the organization's key goals, strategies, capabilities, and progress.
Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Raise funds from the private bar and other community partners to increase funding to legal aid programs statewide.
Grow our endowment fund to ensure a permanent, stable source of income for access to justice in Oregon.
Educate the bar and community partners on the importance of a fair and accessible justice system for all Oregonians.
Work with lawyer volunteers and bar organizations to increase state and federal funding for legal aid.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Continuing our successful peer-to-peer fundraising model using volunteers throughout the state.
Increasing outreach to law firms, community partners, and others with offers of educational programs and materials.
Continuing outreach to champion donors and long-term donors to increase awareness of and interest in endowment bequests and gifts.
Continuing partnerships with our State Bar organization and specialty bar organizations to educate potential donors within their memberships.
Continuing partnerships with State Bar and individual lawyers to engage them in advocacy geared at increasing state and federal funding for legal aid.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
The peer-to-peer fundraising model lends itself well to the use of a large number of volunteers despite our having just a small, 4-person staff. Continued, well thought out utilization of existing volunteers and recruitment of new volunteers is crucial. Engagement of board members and getting their assistance, particularly with champion donor and endowment outreach, is also important.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Current levels:
2800 donors
250 volunteers
Raised $28 million in 28 years
Would like to increase to:
3000 donors
300 volunteers
Increase average yearly donations to $1.5 million
