PANDRILLUS FOUNDATION USA

Drill Ranch is the region's first primate rescue center, founded in 1991. It is a captive breeding and rehab facility for drill monkeys orphaned by the illegal bushmeat trade. It is the world's most successful captive breeding program for an endangered primate. The facility also serves as a home to orphan chimpanzees in the region, and accepts other local wildlife for rehab & release. The project employs dozens of local people in a remote rural area where few employment opportunities exist. The bulk of the project's budget is spent at the grassroots on salaries and animal food purchases from local farmers. Pandrillus was the founding impetus for establishment of the adjacent Afi Mountain Wildlife Sanctuary, the state's first protected area and an important site for the Cross River gorilla and other endangered species.
