Educare Africa

Mission

To improve living and learning conditions for the students and teachers in Cameroon today so that the students can successfully complete their education and then can help their country. In addition, to promote peace, cross-cultural understanding, love and unity of all people.

Notes from the nonprofit

It was my dream since my Peace Corps service in Cameroon to have a multipurpose Community Resource Center in Tatum with a library, computer lab, internet, several guest rooms, where Educare-Africa would also have an office. A complete project proposal with an estimate is on our website. Please, check it out. We cannot do this alone - we need your support. Thank you so much on behalf of the people of Cameroon for your consideration!

Our programs

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Basic educational needs

Educare-Africa's programs are all geared towards providing essential tools for secondary/high school students and schools in rural areas of Cameroon so that they can complete their education. We also visit many students in their villages to see their living conditions, to encourage their parents to continue support their children as much as they can and letting them know about our support. In our future visits we want to include a message about family planning since they have large number of children.
Goals: To improve living and learning conditions for the students and teachers in Cameroon today so that the students can successfully complete their education and then can help their country. In addition, to promote peace, cross-cultural understanding, love and unity of all people.

Objectives:
1) Assess the needs and set priorities for one school at a time.
2) Help each school to prepare project proposals and budgets. Provide building
materials.
3) Provide necessary textbooks, basic school supplies, school and activity clothing, and
laboratory equipment.
4) Assist excellent students in applying to US colleges.
5) Establish this program as a model for helping other villages in Cameroon to improve
the education of their students.

Activities:
We will raise funds in the U.S.A. to buy building materials in Cameroon, assist with transportation of these materials to the building site and oversee completion of each building project. Parents of the students and community will provide the labor. When a dormitory is built, we will provide necessary living allowance for the staff of the dorm until they become self-sufficient. If necessary, we will assist in purchasing land for some essential school building projects, for example a dormitory (or a hostel). We will assist in getting electricity and water to each school.

We will raise funds to provide textbooks for the needy students. Textbooks are available only in Cameroon. We will use funds to provide all the necessary school supplies for needy students. All these supplies can be purchased in Cameroon, which will reduce shipping cost. However, we will also collect donations of laboratory equipment, sport equipment (balls for football, volleyball and handball, a net, etc.). We will collect donations to ship these gifts to schools in Cameroon. We will use raised funds to purchase used clothes in Cameroon for needy students. We will use our funds to assist excellent Cameroonian students in applying to American colleges and we will check on their progress in school.

We will focus on government secondary/high schools in rural areas of Cameroon and we will try to help as many as possible, depending on available funds.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Our main goal is to continue to assist many excellent secondary/high school and university students, especially females with basic educational needs so eventually at least some of them could be come leaders in their community and/or country. In addition, to complete the Educare-Africa/Community Resource Center in Tatum so that many could benefit as soon as possible. We also want to continue to assist with some basic science laboratory equipment to rural high schools so they could offer science classes for the first time.

Keep on doing what we have been doing and sharing results of our work with our kind donors and any other interested group and/or individuals on our website and during presentations, which would include video clips and photographs of our activities. Inspire some of our former students who now have paid jobs to participate and assist current needy students in any way they can. We also hope to inspire some caring individuals to visit Cameroon during Pavla's annual trips and participate in Educare-Africa activities so they could see for themselves what and how we do things, meet some of our students and parents and visit some of the schools we work with and enjoy the beauty of Cameroon.

We are dedicated, passionate and determined and that is what keeps Educare-Africa going.
