What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Mobile Museum
Mobile Museum is a history education outreach program that aligns with Oregon Educational Curriculum standards. Living history presenters not only describe history but also bring it to life with artifacts and discussions that engage the student through hand-on activities such as reenacting school lessons as taught 100 years ago. There are seven different modules with three new modules under development. Last year, the program reached more than 6,200 K-8 students.
Crossroads Lecture Series
The Museum's Crossroads Lectures is a monthly, afternoon lecture series covering a wide range of topics related to local history. Each lecture typically draws fifty to sixty adults. The series is video-taped by the County’s public access channel and broadcast two to three more times each month.
Free Family Day
Family Day is held at the Museum on the second Saturday of each month from 10:00 a.m. to crafts and activities relating to history, culture and the spirit of the changing seasons. It is free and open to the public. More than 150 children and adults attend each month and enjoy hands-on history and art activities for the whole family.
Scout Saturdays & Wednesdays
Scout Saturdays and Wednesdays provide an opportunity for boys and girls to participate in hand-on history and cultural activities that enable them to earn badges when completed. This year the program is being offered once a month on Saturdays and one Wednesday evening per month. The program serves close to 4,000 young people per year.
Robert L. Benson Research Library
The Robert L. Benson Research Library contains an extensive collection that includes a wide range of Washington County historic source materials including hundreds of manuscripts, images, maps, oral histories, and rare books in addition to dozens of reels of microfilmed county newspapers, state, and local records.
