Billy's Place
A safe community for kids and families experiencing grief.
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
The need Billy's Place is working to address is focused on childhood grieving by providing these children with the proper coping skills and peer support to handle the loss of their loved one. One in 13 children in Arizona will experience the death of a parent before high school. The importance of acknowledging that children grieve too is detrimental to raising happy and healthy individuals. We are bringing awareness to this cause and offer a variety of resources for not only these grieving children but their families as well. We provide support by offering grief support group nights, a resource center in our office and are able to connect these individuals with the proper support they need in these trying and difficult times.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Support Groups for Children and Families
Billy’s Place grief support programs teach children and families healthy coping skills that are easily integrated into everyday life, designed to encourage open and honest dialogue, promote mutual respect, strengthen the family unit, and serve to engage protective factors. Through carefully designed grief support programming, Billy’s Place brings comfort and companionship to kids and families experiencing grief.
Young Adults Group Night (YA Grief)
A free grief support group for young adults ages 15-25. This group meets monthly offering a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental space for young adults to share their loss with others who are feeling a similar pain. Participants are invited to share personal experiences with grief, ask questions, and provide support for others.
The Journey
"The Journey" is a free grief support group at Billy's Place for adults who have experienced the loss of a spouse or child. This group meets in a relaxed, causal style where we focus on sharing and making connections for peer-to-peer encouragement and support. We understand each others struggle and we are all working towards a place of hope and understanding.
Traumatic Loss Group (TLG)
For this group, traumatic death is considered traumatic if it involves violence, if it was caused by a perpetrator with the intent to harm, if it was caused by suicide, or if it was caused by overdose
Teen Chill
Teens, ages 13-16 are invited to share personal experiences with grief to provide support for one another.
Kids Kicking Back
