What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Live Performances
Each live performance by San Francisco Symphony artists is a singular opportunity. In coming together for these out-of-the-ordinary occasions, we experience moments of beauty, joy, and unity—moments that can help us lead fuller, more meaningful lives. Our home season consists of nearly 200 performances. Our primary venue is Louise M. Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco, with additional live performances presented at the Shoreline Amphitheater, Laurence Frost Amphitheater at Stanford University, John & Cynthia Gunn Theater at the Legion of Honor, Shoreline Amphitheater, SoundBox, and Sigmund Stern Grove. In addition, the Symphony tours frequently. Annual attendance totals about 300,000.
On Demand Performances
The San Francisco Symphony produces original content inspired by the intersection of music and digital art, utilizing widely available platforms. In a world connected as never before, audiences can experience our distinctive artistry virtually anywhere. Programs include commercial recordings, streaming services, concert films, and radio and television broadcasts. Content is accessed more than 30 million times annually.
In Community Performances & Programs
Young people, families, and local communities flourish from an abundance of free programs centered around our music. By supporting learning and togetherness, we help people to grow, nurture the future, and build a healthier society through music. Programs take place at Davies Symphony Hall, multiple school sites, and community partner locations, and include the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra, education programs in partnership with the San Francisco Unified School District, free ticket initiatives, online resources, special performances, and archives. Annually, these service about 40,000 people.
