Early Childcare Impact
Head Start/Early Head Start
Every child deserves a Head Start. Many children
can experience “toxic stress” from poverty which
leads to lack of impulse and emotion regulation,
making it difficult to be ready for their first
experience of school: Kindergarten. We offer high
quality early learning programs for children from
birth to 5 years old from low-income communities.
• Early Childhood Learning Centers —
taught by trained early childhood educators
provide the optimal learning environment to
ensure every child receives the support and
vital care for their futures. These centers
provide children and families access to
health and dental services, nutritious meals
and resources, mental health support, safe
playgrounds, and specialized education
services for children with special needs.
• Early Childhood Apprenticeship
Program — offers training & support
for aspiring early childhood professionals
by training interested parents from our ECI
and Head Start programs.
Out of School Time
After School Enrichment, Day Camp, Resident Camp and Outdoor Enrichment
Every day after school ends, the Y
provides safe spaces for youth to cultivate their
social emotional growth, build healthy relationships,
strengthen academic enrichment, and develop
leadership skills.
• Expanded Learning Program — an
afterschool enrichment program that elevates
youth’s (K-8) voice and emotional intelligence
so they flourish as future leaders. We provide
nurturing safe spaces in school sites and
hands-on activities for youth to cultivate their
social emotional growth, healthy relationships,
and leadership skills.
Licensed After School Care — Sites
serve kindergarten through middle-school
students with high quality activities,
participate in interactive learning models
that engage in critical thinking skills &
receive tutoring assistance.
Y Scholars — a 4-year college readiness
program.
Youth & Government — a state-wide
leadership program where we teach middle & high school about civic engagement.
Healthy Living
The Y aims to improve the East Bay’s health by
providing programs and activities that promote
health, wellness, fitness, reduce risk and reverse
chronic disease by engaging members of all ages.
• Y programming results through health &
fitness at our 5 Y branches
• Diabetes and chronic disease prevention
and education programs
• Daily workouts through Virtual Y and
YMCA360 for individuals who wish to
exercise at home
• Health and wellness resources and
workshops including individual designed
programs and coaching
• Financial Assistance support to low-income
individuals to participate in core Y programs
and services offered by Y branches, outdoor
camp or day camp experience.
