Our Low Cost Spay & Neuter Clinic offers affordable vaccinations, microchipping, and spay/neuter surgeries to the community.

In order to enable more community members to spay and neuter their pets, Butte Humane Society offers spay/neuter vouchers to anyone who provides proof of economic need through eligibility for the state or federal financial assistance programs.
Animal Assisted Wellnes
We currently visit a number of nursing homes and assisted living facilities throughout the Chico area as well as work with Butte County Library’s StoryTime Tutors and Meriam Library’s monthly Student De-Stress sessions.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Saving Lives. Finding Homes. Inspiring Compassion.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Butte Humane Society is committed to nurturing and promoting the human-animal bond. It is our vision to:
Provide for the well-being of companion animals.
Reduce the number of unwanted animals through aggressive spay/neuter programs.
Promote the human-animal bond through adoption, education and outreach programs.
Act as an advocate on behalf of animals in need.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
We are one of the oldest non-profit agencies in Butte County, California, working since 1911 to bring humanitarian care to dogs, cats and other animals. We are a Limited Admission shelter that strives to make our animals as comfortable as possible during their stay with us.
We are deeply committed to these goals while ensuring the financial security and stability of the organization for future generations.
Our Values: As Butte Humane Society (BHS) works to promote its mission and vision, it is guided by values that are rooted in, and arise from, Butte Humane Society's history, traditions, and culture. Therefore, BHS, its staff and volunteers will maintain:
* Commitment to the public good
* Accountability to the public
* Commitment which exceeds the law
* Respect for the worth and dignity of animals and individuals
* Inclusiveness and social justice
* Respect for pluralism and diversity
* Transparency, integrity, and honesty
* Responsible stewardship of resources
* Commitment to excellence
* Maintain the public trust
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Butte Humane Society (BHS) was founded to provide compassionate, temporary care for Butte County's homeless companion animals. For more than 100 years, the organization's mission has been sustained primarily
through generous local support. It is with this local support that BHS plans to build a new animal care and adoption center, including a shelter and clinic.
The goal of BHS is to create a community animal resource center that reflects the mission and core value of the organization. The new expanded facility will provide a campus for vital, lifesaving work. With the completion of this project, BHS will become the animal welfare hub of Butte County and beyond—working with other shelters and rescue groups to help reduce euthanasia in Chico and the surrounding communities.
Our goal will be to find homes for approximately 3,000 animals annually. The new animal welfare center will be a lively space where people and animals can unite in a calm, stress-free environment. The center will include
enhanced spaces, such as a welcoming reception lobby, generously sized pet acquaintance rooms, spacious common areas and education and meeting facilities. With the expanded opportunities for animal welfare and education,
Butte Humane Society will be positioned as the leading center for best practices in humane animal care.
