The Regional Mentoring Alliance brings together mentors, mentees, educators, businesses, community leaders, and community-based organizations. It empowers them with the knowledge, skills, and training necessary to create a culture of mentoring in our community through becoming mentors, advocates, and supporters of our youth.

Our volunteer mentors meet with their students (mentees) for one hour per week at the student’s school. The goal is to build a positive relationship that focuses on supporting the student’s social and academic development and enhancing the student’s overall school experience. Having a mentor significantly increases a student’s potential for success. Children and youth who have mentors experience improved self-esteem, greater academic achievement, increased motivation in school, and higher quality lifestyle choices. A listening ear, accountability, and a caring role model are all it takes to transform the lives of these children.

Our Foster Care & Adoption Program provides safe and nurturing homes for children removed from their biological families. We help these children achieve permanency through reunification with their families, establishing lifelong connections, or guardianship. The resource parents we serve also have the opportunity to expand their families through the process of adoption. We help create a trauma-informed community by providing our families training on the impact of trauma on a child’s development and how to minimize its effects.

We provide two Short-Term Residential Therapeutic Program (STRTP) group homes for children that struggle in regular foster care or in-home placements. These children need specialized 24-hour care to ensure their safety and well-being. The homes are located in clean, safe, and family-oriented neighborhoods.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

For 50 years, Sierra Vista has served children and families in the Central Valley of California. We serve more than 16,000 children and families each year with 22 programs at 14 locations, providing services throughout Stanislaus and Merced counties. Integrating these programs into the community has created a sustainable availability of child and family services accessible and tailored to address a broad range of needs. By offering quality programs that meet the growing needs of the thousands of people of all ages who are overwhelmed with mental illness, child abuse or substance abuse, children and families have found healing and hope at Sierra Vista. Through our continuum of services, we meet the needs of thousands of children, families, and individuals who struggle with mental health issues, child abuse, domestic violence, social behaviors, special education needs, parenting, and challenges within the family unit.

Sierra Vista is accredited by The Joint Commission, a member of the California Alliance of Child and Family
Services, licensed in Foster Care, Adoption & Residential Services by the State of California, and certified by the
State of California for education and drug and alcohol services. As we look to the future, we’re excited about the opportunity to transform the health and well-being of children and families in our region. Sierra Vista is committed to making a positive impact on the communities we serve. Whether through mentoring a student, educating our clients, providing hope and joy to a family in need, offering stability, or advocating for children’s well-being… Sierra Vista is committed to making a positive impact on the communities we serve.

In 1972 Sierra Vista Child & Family Services was initially known as Therapeutic Homes Incorporated and began
operating Residential Treatment facilities for children. Since its inception, this agency has responded to the
community’s changing needs by continually adapting & developing programs that improve the quality of
life for the children and families we serve. Sierra Vista has offered a range of services to support and strengthen the community through a comprehensive continuum of care including outreach and engagement, navigation, case management, psychoeducation, mental health services, non-public school, foster care, short-term residential therapeutic program (STRTP), and perinatal substance abuse treatment. This commitment has established Sierra Vista as a leader in best practices in the fields of mental health and family support services. As Sierra Vista celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2022, we have grown into one of the largest non-profit agencies in Stanislaus and Merced counties. We are excited at how far we have come and the promising future ahead. In addition, we are proud of the enormous positive impact our dedicated staff, our donors, our volunteers, and the Board of Directors have had on the community and families we serve.

We have demonstrated the stability, reliability, and commitment necessary to tackle the challenging problems that emerge by staying on the cutting edge of service delivery. We offer quality programs that meet the growing needs of thousands of people of all ages, Sierra Vista is a place of hope and healing in the Central Valley.. Based on the agency's history of success, we are launching three new programs and expanding two existing programs at the request of funders to better meet the needs of the communities we serve. The Joint Commission has renewed our accreditation and our STRTP has passed its annual recertification audit. After COVID impacted referrals to our non-public school, we are again at capacity,. which is also true for our mental health program.
