What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

Access to reliable, fact-based news coverage has never been more important. Local newsrooms have seen drastic job cuts due to seismic shifts in the fundamentals of the traditional news business. At the same time, journalism itself is under attack, with the spread of misinformation, and outright attacks on the independence of journalists seeking to inform the public on critical issues. We believe an informed public is essential to the health of democracy, and everyone deserves access to reliable information that can inform and inspire.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Increase the public's awareness of important issues that impact their lives.

Develop original enterprise and investigative reporting on issues not covered by other news organizations.

Report on problems but also look for examples of solutions.

Bring local stories to statewide and national attention.

Reflect the cultural diversity that makes Central California unique.

Build the KVPR newsroom into one of the leading news organizations in Central California.

Enrich the quality of life in Central California.

Combine the strength of NPR's national and global coverage with local reporting and insight
Focus on coverage of big issues that goes beyond the "commodity news" that dominates other broadcast outlets
Lean into our strength with audio storytelling to excel with podcasts and other formats
Leverage our partnerships with other local, statewide and national newsrooms to expand our reach and impact
Bring audiences content across platforms, from broadcast to streaming, smart speakers, mobile apps, the web, etc

We know audio storytelling, it's our core competency. Use this knowledge to advance our goals regardless of the platform. We know our communities, most of our staff grew up here, and live here today. We speak the languages of our many immigrant communities. Use this knowledge to advance our goals. We excel at partnerships and collaborations. Use these relationships to advance our goals.
