What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Independent Living for Older Adults
Four clusters of one and two-bedroom garden apartments and a few multi-bedroom houses on seven beautiful acres in Rincon Valley make up the Independent Living community at Friends House.
All homes are one-story at ground level. Each of the four clusters has a Commons area with a kitchen, dining area with multiple tables, a large living room, and a laundry room. Meetings and gatherings are organized regularly in the Commons areas and residents also make use of the Commons for reading, working on a jigsaw puzzle, watching TV, using a computer, or hosting family parties and dinners. The Friends Café offers three delicious and healthy meals a day. Breakfast is free for residents. Lunch and dinner are available at a modest cost to community members. Fitness classes are offered on campus five days a week and there is also a Fitness Center and available for use. Transportation services are provided for the individuals who have made the Friends House community their home.
Assisted Living
The Friends House Assisted Living Center is warm and inviting with a family-like atmosphere. It is located across from Friends House main building and accommodates six individuals. The Assisted Living Center offers 24-hour per day help with activities of daily living, medication management, and assistance arranging appointments and transportation.
Each resident has a private room with their own bathroom and patio. People are encouraged to furnish their accommodations as they wish with their own furniture and decorations. They share a sunny and spacious living room and adjoining dining room where they enjoy healthy meals, may watch TV, or visit. Weather permitting a patio area is used for outdoor dining and visiting with friends and relatives. Residents enjoy celebrating birthdays and holidays together. They attend Friends House community events and programs offered to the broader campus community. Individuals whose home is in the Assisted Living Facility, especially enjoy the weekly Friends House community tea and the evening weekly speaker programs in the library.
Health Services
Friends House Health and Rehabilitation Center
Get Better, Return Home
At Friends House, we provide skilled nursing healthcare services in a warm, residential environment. Our Health Services and Rehabilitation Center offers an array of rehabilitation services, short-term health care for individuals recovering from illness or injury, long-term care for individuals who are especially frail or needing nursing care for longer periods. Palliative care, specialized medical care for people with serious illness, is provided with the goal to improve the quality of life for both the healthcare user and family. When needed, hospice and end-of-life care is also available.
Our community is Medicare / Medi-Cal certified and open to the public. Friends House professional staff members are caring, compassionate, and available around-the-clock, seven days a week. What really sets the health care center at Friends House apart is our philosophy of providing services and personal care that are tailored to individual needs. Our goal is to help each person return to their highest level of function in a comforting, relaxing environment.
Personal Care Plan
Generally, individuals come to the Health Services and Rehabilitation Center directly after a hospital stay. Within our Rehabilitation Center, our licensed nursing staff and team of therapists work with each resident to develop a Personal Care Plan tailored to their individual healthcare needs, and to assist them in achieving their highest level of function and best quality of life.
“We help people get back to living their lives the way they want to.”
Feel Like Yourself Again
Our Therapy Team is composed of expert professionals licensed in a range of specialties.
◦Physical Therapy – Our Physical Therapists work with residents to improve muscular strength, balance, flexibility, and functional mobility.
◦Occupational Therapy – This type of therapy is designed to improve residents’ ability to perform the activities of daily living, including dressing, bathing, grooming, eating, and transferring in and out of bed.
◦Speech Therapy – Residents who have problems with speaking, hearing, comprehension, expression, or swallowing benefit from this type of therapy.
◦Restorative Therapy – Restorative therapy and services are designed to maintain function, independence, and improve self-esteem.
“The best thing about being a physical therapist is seeing residents get better.”
