Californians for Population Stabilization, Inc.
Overpopulation is a growing problem
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
Californians for Population Stabilization (CAPS) is confronting the most important issue facing California and the United States—runaway population growth. Failure to slow this growth will result in severe and irreversible consequences for our children and grandchildren. Overpopulation causes environmental damage and overuse of nature’s bounty. It strains local infrastructure and frays community institutions. It affects air and water quality, traffic congestion, school overcrowding, causes destruction of forests and wildlife, and results in the permanent loss of fertile land and other non-renewable resources.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Overpopulation Awareness Media Campaign
Through television, radio and print ads educates the public about the connections between overpopulation, over-immigration and declining resources and quality of life.
Stop Sanctuary
The CAPS Stop Sanctuary campaign employs digital and traditional media platforms to educate California and the nation at large on the harmful impact of being or becoming a sanctuary state.
California: 40 million and growing
This year California’s population has reached
40 million. It is not a cause for celebration.
NEPA Lawsuit
CAPS is a lead participant in a class action lawsuit against the Department of Homeland Security for failing to comply with NEPA guidelines with regard to mass immigration's impact on the environment.
LEGAL IMMIGRATION DRIVES U.S. POPULATION GROWTH
While illegal immigration is a tremendous
problem—for starters, it is illegal, it enables
entry of dangerous people who have not been
vetted, and it is unfair to those who have
played by the rules and are waiting for legal
permission—it is important to remember that
legal immigration is a much larger component
of population growth. While there are 11 to 12
million illegal immigrants in the country, the total
immigrant population is 46 million, the highest it
has ever been.
FIRE DEVASTATES CALIFORNIA AGAIN
“California’s population has nearly doubled
since the 1970s, from around 20 million to
nearly 40 million today. As a result, people are
encroaching on once sparsely populated areas
more vulnerable to fires. Across the country the
number of homes on the wildland-urban interface
has increased dramatically. A recent study in the
Proceedings of National Academy of Sciences
illustrates the encroachment issue: ‘Within the
perimeter of recent wildfires (1990-2015), there
were 286,000 houses in 2010, compared with
177,000 in 1990.’ High populations mean a
higher propensity for fires to be started in those
forested areas. This is the direct human element.”
