Access to healthcare is one of the largest challenges that our area faces. Raising funds to support the Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System, we help them to expand and improve their services to reach a larger portion of our community.

Since 1989, Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System has been a part of the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals (CMNH), a national charity dedicated to raising funds and awareness for local children's healthcare. Over 17 million children each year are helped by the 170 CMN member hospitals throughout the United States and Canada. Most importantly, every dollar raised locally stays local to help children in each hospital's community.

In the 30 years that Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System has been a part of Children's Miracle Network, we have raised and contributed over $12 million to children's medical equipment and services at SVMH, and across the tri-county area.

Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System is the only Children's Miracle Network Hospital in Monterey, Santa Cruz, and San Benito Counties, and all local fundraising done throughout these three counties directly benefits our program.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

The goal of Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital Foundation (SVMHF) is to enable the Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System to continue their mission to provide quality healthcare to their patients and to improve the health and well-being of our community.

We will raise funds through grant writing, corporate fundraising campaigns, the solicitation of major gifts, planned giving, and a large upcoming capital campaign.

Our staff and board are comprised of local professionals with a passion for our healthcare system. We continue to seek education for staff and board members to stay current on giving trends and strategy, and proudly have a CFRE on staff.

Over the 40 year history of the SVMH Foundation, millions of dollars have been raised and donated to support the healthcare system. We've funded nearly every service line offered by the healthcare system and have played a large role in the improvement and modernization of the hospital facility.

The next major project for the SVMH Foundation includes a capital campaign for the expansion of the Taylor Farms Family Health & Wellness Center in Gonzales, followed by a multi-year large scale campaign for building improvements.

Data
  • We review compensation data across the organization (and by staff levels) to identify disparities by race.
  • We ask team members to identify racial disparities in their programs and / or portfolios.
  • We analyze disaggregated data and root causes of race disparities that impact the organization's programs, portfolios, and the populations served.
  • We disaggregate data to adjust programming goals to keep pace with changing needs of the communities we support.
  • We have long-term strategic plans and measurable goals for creating a culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
Policies and processes
  • We seek individuals from various race backgrounds for board and executive director/CEO positions within our organization.
  • We have community representation at the board level, either on the board itself or through a community advisory board.
  • We engage everyone, from the board to staff levels of the organization, in race equity work and ensure that individuals understand their roles in creating culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
