What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Immigrant Voices
AIISF is pleased to present stories about the immigrant experience. These stories offer testimony to the perseverance, courage and tenacity of immigrants whose belief in the American ideals of freedom and justice was unshakable despite hardships and discrimination.
We invite you to share your immigrant story or your family's immigrant heritage story to our growing collection.
Field Trip Scholarships
Nothing can replace learning about history on the site where it happened. AIISF supports local, Bay Area schools with supplemental funds (up to $1000) to help cover transportation costs, tickets, and other expenses related to visiting the Angel Island Immigration Station. Priority is given to Title 1 Schools.
Cultural, Educational, and Story Sharing Programs
AIISF hosts in-person and virtual programs throughout the year. These include collaborations with musicians, dances, scholars, artists, and authors whose work have been inspired or including by Angel Island's history.
Historical and Cultural Preservation
The Angel Island Immigration Station is a National Historic Landmark and a California Historical Landmark. Originally designated by the National Trust for Historic Preservation (NTHP) as one of America's 11 Most Endangered Historic Places, AIISF's efforts have helped transform the site into one of NTHP's "Success Stories."
In 2023, the site's hospital building was opened to the general public for the first time in the site's history after a 7-year, $15 million renovation. The building was previously used to conduct medical screenings. It has now been reimagined and repurposed as a museum and meeting facility.
