Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Continuous education and awareness of how precious and important it is to recognize and remember how lucky we are to have had veterans selflessly serve their nation thereby allowing us to live in the United States of America.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Our strategy has several supporting lines of effort which include:
- a vibrant middle and high school education program, both formal and informal;
- launched in 2020, our education program now includes a STEM program centered on military-related technologies developed over the past 100 years;
- we provide free and/or reduced cost adult education programs and/or symposiums;
- at no cost, we host the largest monthly gathering of veterans in the State of Idaho;
- we actively support our veterans in a variety of initiatives and ways including social media and networking;
- we actively support veterans support groups and initiatives in our local and extended community.
- we support other military and veteran related non-profits in our community, state and region.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
We have a staff of thirteen: four full-time employees (Executive Director, Curator, Business Manager, and Director of Communication, Education, and Administrative. Most importantly, we have 75 incredibly active and engaged volunteers who contribute over 22,000 hours annually and who plan, organize and lead most of our tremendously successful programs.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
COVID has definitely impacted our operations, progress and capabilities. But, even so, we are focused on returning to pre-COVID levels of performance.
This year, in partnership with On Semiconductors (https://www.onsemi.com/) an international technology company, we launched a STEM program for 5-8th graders focused on teaching about the fusion between history and technology over the past 100 years. We utilize the available military-related technologies existing in our extensive collection. We expect this program to be enormously successful.
Our education program is at the center of our purpose. In 2019, we saw more than 8,000 middle and high school students in both formal and informal education programs. During the 18 month period between January 1, 2018 and July 1, 2019 we hosted over 108 schools and student groups representing over 17 school districts from throughout Idaho and neighboring states like Utah, Montana and Oregon. Our impact is regional with students and teachers visiting us from throughout Idaho and eastern Oregon, Montana and Utah. Our distance learning capabilities are improving and will continue to grow.
The museum is experiencing a tremendous period of incremental yet sustainable growth and progress. All performance metrics are trending upward due to new executive leadership and key staff hires, notably our marketing director. Our social media and digital market penetration is now in excess of 25,000 people. Each month we extensively use Google analytics and other digital metrics to measure effectiveness. Our various digital communications routinely exceed industry standards for success rates such as 22-27% open rates and 5-8.5% click thru rates.
Our veteran and veteran support efforts are incredibly healthy. Each month we host the largest gathering of veterans in the State of Idaho. Over 225 attendees - and growing.
