Programs and results
What we aim to solve
In lower income communities of the Bay Area, students struggle to overcome the pervasive challenges of crime, racial tension, gangs, violence, low performing schools, lack of resources, fatherlessness, addiction and family instability. TYM is changing the life trajectory of at-risk youth. Through year-round programming and mentoring relationship, we guide students through a Transformational Journey to instill resilience and fulfill their God given potential.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Summer Camp Experiences
This week-long, full-service overnight camp experience provides fun and adventure with friends and a team of caring leaders. Camp opens the door to connect with God and launch a camper’s faith.
Kid's Club
Kids Club focuses on introducing children to Christ and helping them apply his teachings to the issues they face in their everyday life. Our leaders utilize recreational and even comedic approach to interacting with children, including creative games, music and activities.
THRIVE! Youth Academy
Whether a child from summer camp or a teen from a wilderness
backpack trip, we often hear at the end of a week together, "what's
next?" There are a host of structured and small group experiences that
take place during the year. The Fall season highlights are: back to school
backpacks; HopeFest which serves partly as a reunion for campers and summer
staff; Halloween Party & Christmas party. Children & teens join
together for many of these large group events. On the smaller group side, we
often choose activities requested by our children including: day trips to museums,
parks and sporting event. The Winter
months are highlighted by weekend Winter Camps. These are 24-hours of pure fun
and fellowshitransportation
& a program for the children. A Spring-time highlight is our Walk For Their
Future walk-a-thon. This is a large gathering of TYM kids (campers from many
years combined), Summer Volunteers & a host of volunteers and supporters of
the organization. It has proved to an excellent venue for creating new memories
together.
Emerging Leaders Program
This year-long experience is a pivotal time period in each teen’s life – no matter if they come from affluent or impoverished backgrounds. The lessons learned throughout the cohort extend well into adulthood, covering topics such as spiritual leadership, cultural competency and emotional intelligence

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
In the face of this very real and tangible poverty, every student responds differently. Some choose to act out in violence, while others choose substance abuse. Some engage in or become victims of sexual assault, and others stay in unhealthy relationships. Too often, their inner belief in themselves as made in the image of God takes a hit simply by living in these unchangeable environments.
TYM seeks to change the path these kids are on. We cannot fix the problems inherent in the community, but we can help our kids find a way up. Our goal is to help kids become part of the solution for themselves and their community. The more kids we help, the more communities can be lifted. Together with Today's Youth Matter, you can help hurting kids enter a Transformational Journey from elementary school through high school that will change the trajectory of their lives
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Building on a track record that includes 26 years of camp, and more than 10,000 students impacted, Today's Youth Matter takes a holistic approach that includes facets of educational pathways, character building, leadership development, spiritual formation and family interaction.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Annually, TYM reviews its strategic plans and initiatives that includes plans for fundraising, operations and program execution. In that, we specifically evaluate financially capacity, staff capacity and volunteer need.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
TYM is excited moving forward as we capitalize on the success of the organization over the past 25 years. Over the years, we've reached over 10,000 disadvantaged, underserved youth across San Francisco's Bay Area. In 2018, we had our largest camp ever taking over 200 kids and leaders to our summer camp experience. Additionally, we entered the second year of our THRIVE! Youth Academy servicing the Richmond/Hilltop area. In our program, we saw 30+ students sign up to receive Academic enrichment as well as Social and Emotional support to aid in their relationship building.
