What we aim to solve
The need to provide children and families with wellness programs and recreational experiences is greater than ever. For children with conditions such as autism, diabetes, Chron’s and colitis, brain tumors, HIV/AIDS, skin disease and celiac disease, a significant portion of their lives is spent focused on managing their condition. Children who are medical fragile are not afforded the same childhood pleasures of play, abundant friendships, social interaction, outdoor adventures, and other activities. Such a lifestyle of continuous effort and obligation renders dismal the potential for making friends or feeling safe, let alone experiencing the childhood they deserve—carefree and unconcerned with the daily struggles of their condition.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
TTFF's Summer & Weekend Camp Program
TTFF provides a free residential youth camp at Camp Arroyo during the summer months & weekends throughout the year for children (age 6 - 22) with life-threatening and chronic illnesses, developmental disabilities and youth at-risk.
Urgent Need Program
Family is a child’s central source of strength and support, studies show that children cope better and heal faster when family is by their side. Often families of the children we serve find themselves in urgent need, be it financial, medical, emotional, or programmatic. In addition to funding camp, TTFF provides support for these urgent needs to families who are experiencing a medical crisis. Whether it is helping families with basic needs and tangible necessities to rebuild their lives, visiting them in the hospital, or suggesting and coordinating outside resources, TTFF knows that helping the family ultimately helps the child. TTFF allows the children in these families with distinctive opportunities to gain independence, build self-confidence and become more optimistic about their life-circumstances. Introduced to new levels of social interaction, acceptance and encouragement, these children are afforded a solid and reliable foundation as they face the challenges inevitable in their everyday lives.
Music Therapy Program
Sophie's Place, a mobile music therapy program was launched in 2013 by TTFF in partnership with Wells Fargo and Forever Young Foundation as an addition to its wellness programs. In addition to offering music therapy during the summer months and weekends while our camps are in session at Camp Arroyo, our licensed Music Therapist travels bringing music, joy, and healing to pediatric patients and their families who are homebound or patients in Northern California hospitals.
