Grant-Making
The Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi's primary program is making grants. The Foundation seeks to accomplish its mission by providing resources to nonprofit organizations to make positive change in its eleven-county region. For that purpose, it has stimulated the establishment of permanently endowed funds and leveraged them with funds from other sources such as private foundations and government.
Right! From the Start
The second largest program was to improve children's health, primarily by working to reduce childhood obesity and to increase breastfeeding. The work included healthy eating throughout the state's largest farmers market and the statewide sustainable agriculture effort including farm-to-school initiatives. Mothers, especially in low-income areas and with premature or low birth-weight babies, were encouraged and supported in breastfeeding through churches, community meetings, and local media. Newborn babies in NICUs were connected with their mothers for their mutual benefit.
Community Digital Scholars
The Community Foundation's third-largest program was the Community Digital Scholars to enable 81 schools to teach critical skills that students need to thrive, including personal finance, STEM readiness, and entrepreneurship. The online aspect engaged students, ensured consistent quality and enables accountability. For instance, student's knowledge of personal finance increased 91 percent.

What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
The Community Foundation connects people who care with causes that matter. It assists donors as well as nonprofit organizations and charitable causes that make a difference in people’s lives. While donors designate their charitable contributions, the foundation has set its priorities on education, health and children in order to make the greatest impact on its community.
The Foundation is the link – the connecting point – between people who care and the causes that matter to Northwest Mississippi residents’ quality of life.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
The Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi is committed to growing endowments for nonprofits served in its 11-counties. The Board of Directors' focus is on the generational Transfer of Wealth. Personal visits with prospective donors is a top priority as is sharing the stories and needs of nonprofits, especially those who are working with children in the Mississippi Delta.
