Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Museum Education Program
Education programs for school students that include walking tours, in-house hands on history tours at the Museum and at the Alviso Adobe, and outreach to the classrooms.
Ed Kinney Lecture Series
Ed Kinney was a resident of Pleasanton for many years and was probably one of the biggest promoters of the city. He was a former mayor and is probably best remembered as the emcee of the parades in the downtown where he broadcast from the balcony of the Pleasanton Hotel. His involvement and service to the city inspired both the Ed Kinney lecture series and the Ed Kinney Community Patriot Award The 10 month lecture series introduces participants to a variety of topics of local, regional and national history interest that often times relates to the current exhibtion at the Museum.
Changing Exhibitions
The Museum hosts a number of changing exhibitions each year that are related to local, regional and national history and the relationship to the community's developmont. Recent examples include: the Civil War in CA, silent movies made in Pleasanton in the earlty 20th century, the legacy of Phoebe Hearst who lived in Pleasanton, an annual local artist show, and the role of acgriculture in the history of the community.
Public Programs
We offer a range of public programs on an annual basis that includes such things as Hollywood in Pleasanton (an afternoon with recreations of various movie scenes that were filmed here with local citizens playing the roles), Brothels, Bar Rooms and Bandits ( an affordable program that acknowledges the community's rough and tumble "Wild West" days, Ghost Walks ( an October event that explores the various ghost stories that abound in the downtown historic core).
