Accelerating Bible Translation
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
Millions of people around the world are still waiting to have God's Word in the language of their heart. Our vision is to have a Bible in Every Lanugage.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Translation Services
Wyclifffe Associates's Translation Services program provides workshops to enable national translators to come to a two-week event that trains them in Church Owned Bible Translation methodology. Wycliffe Associates’ Bible translation strategy trains and equips teams of local believers to translate the Scriptures side by side. People who never imagined having God’s Word in their heart language are receiving it with joy, and lives are being transformed. Through, this workshop the translators often complete a large percentage of the translation of the New Testament into their own language. If not, they are followed by another event that they facilitate themselves to complete the translation work. It also offers follow up to enable the local teams to complete their translations.
Technology Advance and Software Development
Right now is an exciting time for Bible translation, because God has provided the tools to accelerate the translation process and share His Word to the ends of the earth. Wycliffe Associates’ development of robust Bible translation technology paired with their new Church Owned Bible Translation methodology workshops), means more people than ever before are able to have God’s Word at their fingertips! Some of the tools provided by Wycliffe Associates include Tablets for National Translators (TNT), Bible Translation Recording Kits (BTRK), Print On Demand (POD) Units. Wycliffe Associates has an online repository for open-licensed translation software. Contributors from all over the world have built software and systems to enable the Global Church to translate Scripture for itself. The goal of translating God’s Word into every language took a giant step toward reality when Wycliffe Associates's BTT Writer app was released for free download in the Google Play store and then later for desktop computers. The app’s resource section provides a wealth of information on key terms and how to overcome translation challenges to assist local translators in creating Bible translations that are accurate, clear, and natural. Collaboration tools enable any number of people to work together, online or offline, to draft and revise their work for the best possible result. Millions of people speak languages that are unwritten. BTT Writer has subsequently been joined by BTT Recorder, an app to help with oral-to-oral Bible Translation.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Because millions of people around the world still wait to read the Scriptures in the language of their heart, Wycliffe Associates is working as quickly as we can to see every verse of God's Word translated into every tongue to speak to every heart. We are directly involved with speeding Church Owned Bible translation by providing technology, training, resources, logistics, networking, expertise, volunteers, and support. By empowering Mother Tongue Translators and the local church around the world, we are striving to achieve the vision of having a Bible in every language.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Organized in 1967 by friends of Bible translators, Wycliffe Associates is a ministry that accelerates Bible translation around the world. Because millions of people around the world still wait to read the Scriptures in the language of their heart, Wycliffe Associates is working as quickly as we can to see every verse of God's Word translated into every tongue to speak to every heart. To make this happen, Wycliffe Associates uses the following strategies: 1) empowers national Bible translators to provide God's Word in their own heart language; 2) partners with the local church to direct and guard translation work, harnessing their passion and desire for God's Word, in support of Church Owned Bible Translation; and 3) engages people from all around the world to provide resources, technology, training, and support for Church Owned Bible translation.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
With more than 50 years of experience, Wycliffe Associates is uniquely positioned and capable of achieving their vision through the following capabilities:
Expertise—Wycliffe Associates provides skill and experience in managing translation work, including networking, logistics and technology, training, translation resources, strategic innovation, and distribution of training resources and Scripture.
Enabling—Through Wycliffe Associates' work to encourage, support, and catalyze the passion, skills, and commitment of national translators, Bible translation will happen faster and more accurately. Nationals are motivated because it's their own language.
Innovation—Wycliffe Associates is comprised of a team that provides innovative solutions to overcome Bible translation obstacles; such as copyright limitations, remote locations, hostilities, and more.
Adaptability—Wycliffe Associates has the ability to quickly adapt to the advancing vision and needs of Bible translation around the world.
Connectivity— Our teams connect national translators with each other around the world with laptop computers and solar-powered satellite communications. When connected through the Internet and satellite, the national translators become a cohesive team—who together are much more effective and efficient than when working independently.
Accuracy—We are committed to supporting only Bible translations that use accurate and literal common language terms for “Father" and “Son" when referring to God and Jesus Christ. We diligently promote accurate Bible translation in every Wycliffe Associates project.
Accountability—This organization applies sound stewardship principles to translation work, by holding all efforts to standard measurable results. This significantly contributes to accelerating Bible translation in support of our vision to have a Bible in every language.
Inspiration—Wycliffe Associates communicates inspiring stories of national translators, and those who are still waiting, as the best way to punctuate the need and impact of translating God's Word into people's heart language.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
As of 3/1/23, Bible translation started in over 1,000 languages using Mobilized Assistance Supporting Translation (MAST) workshops, MAST Bible translations are in progress in over 779 languages, and there are 549 completed New Testaments.
• For FY2022, we have served Christians by mobilizing thousands of volunteers & staff members and generated ministry awareness to millions of people. • Serve Bibleless People Groups by engaging 75,000 prayer partners, by advancing the cause of Bible translation in 81 countries, by raising $39,793,779 in financial resources for the ministry. • Serve Wycliffe Associates (WA) volunteers by organizing devotions and Bible studies within our teams that integrate personal spiritual growth with our organizational ministry; by integrating Scriptural reflection into our donor communications and events; by having volunteers, employees, and supported staff serving seamlessly side-by-side in every division and department of WA & in every level of leadership.
Through the following creative new solutions, Wycliffe Associates was able to empower the national church and national translators around the world:
o Bible Translation Acceleration Kits (BTAKS) allow Bible translators in the most remote regions of the world to collaborate more safely and effectively. To date, WA has installed 549 BTAKS for 793 language communities.
o Print On Demand (POD) is a remarkable resource for printing and distributing God's Word. In moments, real copies of God's Word are printed quickly, literally “on demand." To date, Wycliffe Associates has deployed 151 PODs.
o Technology for National Translators (TNTs) include a small tablet computer or laptop and an open-source computer app, that will enable translators to work together to speed Bible translation from anywhere in the world. To date, 6,986 TNTs have been distributed around the world.
o During the second half of 2014, WA empowered national Bible translators to test & refine a new collaborative, translation method, called Mobilized Assistance Supporting Translation (MAST), which allows simultaneous & lightning fast Bible translation. The tests were a success, & through this new method, national believers in South Asia translated half the New Testament in just two weeks, a milestone that historically has taken years. As of 9/30/22, WA continues to refine MAST & now over 700 languages are currently translating the Bible.
