Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
California State University, Bakersfield is a comprehensive public university committed to offering excellent undergraduate and graduate programs that advance the intellectual and personal development of its students. CSU Bakersfield will be the leading campus in the CSU system in terms of faculty and academic excellence and diversity, quality of the student experience, and community engagement. CSUB's strategic goals are as follows:
Extend Faculty and Academic Excellence and Diversity
Enhance the Quality of the Student Experience
Strengthen Community Engagement
Develop an Excellent and Diverse Staff
Develop a Campus Culture With a Sense of Community and a Commitment to Organizational Excellence
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
The University will develop plans to increase the student enrollment to 18,000 students over the next fifteen to twenty years.
While continuing its commitment to the enrollment of community college transfers and non-traditional aged students, an increased emphasis will be placed on enrolling more first-time freshmen directly from high school, and more students from other California counties, other states, and other nations.
We will review our existing academic programs and determine what new academic programs should be added to meet the changing student, community and economic development needs of our region.
New faculty will be recruited as the enrollment grows.
New facilities and support infrastructure will be planned to accommodate the expansion of academic programs and student enrollment.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
The University Strategic Planning and Budget Advisory Committee monitors progress towards the achievement of the University's goals and objectives, including the review of institutional metrics and data, and provides input on the budgetary strategy to support the plan. The Committee advises the President on campus budget matters, and makes recommendations for supporting the academic mission and maintaining institutional viability in light of fiscal challenges and opportunities.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
1) The University has increased the student enrollment to 10,000 students and is on task with reaching 18,000 students within the set time frame.
2) CSUB has significantly increased the number of first-time freshmen directly from high school, and more students from other California counties, other states, and other nations.
3) CSUB has recruited new faculty in line with the growing student enrollment.
4) CSUB has built two new buildings in the past two years to accommodate the expansion of academic programs and student enrollment.
5) Academic programs are being reviewed and plans are being made to determine what new academic programs should be added to meet the changing student, community and economic development needs of our region.
