Teen Insiders Project
Visiting Artist Series (VAS)
Visiting Artist Series (VAS) pairs exhibiting artists with local schools, after-school programs, and non-profit organizations for a two-part, educational workshop. Classes visit the MCASB galleries for a Visual Thinking Strategies tour. Afterwards, students participate in a hands-on art workshop, led by the exhibiting artist, that meets the Academic Content Standards for Visual Arts.
Art Lab
The Art Lab and Library & Resource Room located within MCASB's galleries, are designated for hands-on learning and to help visitors attain a more in-depth understanding of the current exhibition.
Here visitors will find current publications, books, and information regarding both MCASB and other community arts programs.
Sessions
Sessions is an ongoing series of in-depth, “living room“ conversations specially formatted for creative thinkers, artists, and art enthusiasts in our community. These talks are designed to facilitate inquiry into the cultural, political, and social topics affecting artists and the art world.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Strategic goals established in 2012 guide all of the Museums' programing, development, marketing, and other institutional decisions. The goals center around strengthening and diversifying audience, increasing awareness--regionally and on a broader scale--, expanding the impact of the Museums' mission into new spaces, and establish financial sustainability to ensure the health and longevity of the Museum.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Strategies in place to fulfill the Museums goals include changing the name to better reflect the Museums' mission; refining the mission statement; developing staff to support more impactful programs and increased marketing and development efforts; growing the board of trustees in position the Museum with appropriate advisors; providing professional development and training for both staff and board; redesign of the brand, website, and marketing materials; achieving American Association of Museums accreditation; upgrading gallery facility; and growing and shaping education, development, and exhibition programs to better meet audience need and mission.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
The Museum of Contemporary Art Santa Barbara is growing its ability to provide impactful art engagement programing and advance creativity in the immediate region and beyond.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
At the end of 2014, the Museum of Contemporary Art Santa Barbara is halfway through its three-year strategic plan. The rebrand and mission revision are complete, AAM accreditation is in progress, staffing needs have been filled and a full compliment of senior staff are moving the Museum forward toward its goals. Membership, attendance, and donations have all increased. The board of trustees has grown, and board and senior staff are regularly participating in development and training opportunities.
