Our programs

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Traveling international bookplate exhibitions

These are always new exhibitions that include many fine examples of contemporary bookplate prints & engravings by artists representing 40+ nations.  Our exhibitions visit libraries and museums throughout the Americas.

This is an introduction to contemporary marks of ownership. It is our society's new ANNUAL directory of artists and introduction to contemporary international bookplate art. It will serve libraries, museums, artists, collectors worldwide. We will provide this directory as a multi-language publication.

This new edition is first being published as an e-book then a trade edition. It is among the first to present 21st century marks of book ownership. An introduction to contemporary ex libris prints and the artists who make them is long overdue.

International congress of book artists, librarians, publishers, bibliophiles will descend on the San Francisco Bay Area during this year.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

The Society plans to establish an ex libris research center in North America for the study of the graphic art form. There are more than a dozen such bookplate centers throughout the world today: Russia, China, Denmark, Poland, Belgium, Italy, Turkey, to name a few. The center will maintain the society archives & library. Organize exhibitions. We plan to present Master Artist workshops through art colleges in North America. The ASBC&D helps to build international friendships through the book arts.

NOW we are planning our 100th anniversary congress to be presented in the San Francisco Bay Area. Many libraries and museums in the Bay Area hold membership with our association. Given the extraordinary movement in the San Francisco book arts, this is the city where the ASBC&Ds museum & library belongs.

INCREASE PUBLIC AWARENESS:

Our presence is strong in social networking circles. We have 22,000 "followers" on Facebook, Linked-In, Twitter, etc.

The ASBC&D helps to build international friendships through the book arts. The Society organized the first International Ex Libris Congress in the USA at the Boston Public Library in Boston, Massachusetts during year 2000. In 2009 we organized the first Inter-American Ex Libris Congress at the Instituto Allende Fine Arts College in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico.

NOW we are planning our 100th anniversary world congress in the San Francisco Bay Area. Many libraries and museums in the Bay Area hold membership with our association.

Since year 2000, the ASBC&D has organized over 30 exhibitions that have been presented by major libraries from coast-to-coast.

The ASBC&D published a popular press edition of the ART OF THE BOOKPLATE in 2003.

James P Keenan, Director, ASBC&D

Through our visionary leadership we are making advances in education, publishing, and public art exhibitions. Our track record is excellent. With over 9 decades of advancing the art of the bookplate, we will celebrate our 100th anniversary in 2022!

We have delivered high quality programs, exhibitions, and publications for many years. Some of our library and museum members have been with us for decades and we are keeping pace with the contemporary art form. Now with new publications, Master Artist workshops, our research center, traveling exhibitions, we are headed to inevitable success. Our membership continues to grow through many of our new e-publications, online exhibitions, and our social networking efforts.
