Mission

Women In Photography International provides avenues of learning to allow women to compete more confidently in the field of photography. During the years 1981 thru 1992, WIPI participated in lecture series, educational programs, Distinguished Photographers awards and produced the paper F2 newsletter that provided members with a forum to be recognized for their photographic talent and abilities
Reorganized and re-established in 2000 Members continue to participate in educational programs, award programs, seminars and call for entries, for Women In Photography International exhibitions, through the new expanded access of the online resource center at either www.WomenInPhotography.org or www.wipi.org.

The website provides an venue for women in the photographic arts to communicate on local and global levels, sharing images, ideas and accomplishments that can further their opportunities.

Women in Photography International

Our Web site provides online networking and visibility for women working in the photographic arts.

GALLERIES - PROfessional, General Member, Student, and Historical presentations; F2 eZine - Online style e-magazine, with monthly updates includes: WIPI NEWS - Articles by and about women photographers and writers; COMPETITIONS - Photo contests worldwide; BOOK REVIEWS - reviews and a list of suggested reading along with books about the business of photography; INDUSTRY NEWS - Technical and product information; MARKETING NEWS - Articles on techniques to produce and promote portfolios and find work; CLASSIFIDES, Women's workshops - international employment listings. PVT message Member board for job opportunities

The website also includes: PHOTOGRAPHY LINKS, a resource list of national and international links to magazines, photography schools, educational programs, museums, etc.; WIPI REFERENCE LIBRARY - Comprehensive list of books and photography collections including periodicals and exhibition catalogs housed within the WIPI Archive, founded and curated by historian Peter Palmquist; ARCHIVES - Past quarterly issues; and TRANSLATION - Translates website into a choice of 6 different languages.

The WIPI website has been designed to pursue the following goals and objectives:

1. Provide an online resource of information and opportunity for women to succeed in both the art and in the business of photography.

2. Promote the visibility of women working in the photographic arts.

3. Educate and to and provide networking through e-mail and web site links and member networking.

4. Reach broad geographic areas that have been historically underserved. Provide articles and gallery presentations of women photogrpahers work, application and paths taken to attain their goals. Thereby providing inspiration for women to accomplish their photographic goals and widen their horizons.

5. Recognize women for their accomplishments through award programs.

NEW - Nov 2014, confirmation, letter from Curator / Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library. Project Initiated April 2014, WIPI organization preparation to transfer files to the Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library, Yale University, Spring - July 2015.
CHARTER GALLERY presentation is to showcase and provide a cross reference of the variety of women working in the photographic arts that consider their work as a profession or a dedicated hobby that could mature into something more significant over time.
