Interfaith's Self-Sufficiency and Supportive Services provide access to comprehensive programs that empower each individual to lead an independent and thriving life. Through assessments, case management, and supportive services, Interfaith ensures community members reach self-sufficiency. Included in these programs are also nutritional services and access to basic needs.

Social Services
Senior Programs
The Social Services Department provides emergency walk-in assistance at both the Escondido and Oceanside offices. Volunteer intake workers and staff provide basic assessments, referrals, and services to clients requesting assistance regardless of the family’s income. Services provided may include 3 days worth non-perishable food items, gas vouchers or bus passes for job interviews and doctor’s appointments, and assistance with identification cards, prescriptions and birth certificates, an EITC program, Legal Clinic, and other services. Case managers are able to provide assistance with past due utility bills and rental assistance. We also offer showers and laundry facilities, and clients are able to utilize Interfaith headquarters as a permanent address for receiving mail and phone messages. In addition, they are able to use our fax and copy machines, as well as the phone for making business related calls within the area codes 760, 858, and 619.
Our Basic Needs department staffs and stocks our two pantries, provides hot meals open to the public each weekday morning (after which each guest also gets a sack lunch), and provides meal service for our shelters and pantry food for clients in our other programs. Our Basic Needs staff actively participates in advocacy, and co-founded the Food Policy Council serving North San Diego County.

Permanent Housing
Interfaith offers a variety of permanent housing units and programs that provide safe and affordable housing for homeless community members. Interfaith works within a housing methodology that prioritizes moving individuals experiencing homelessness into housing as quickly as possible while simultaneously providing right-sized supportive services. Interfaith also provides owned and operated supportive permanent housing for homeless disabled individuals, as well as families with a disabled adult family member.

VOCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Recovery & Wellness
The Recovery & Wellness Center will provide a safe place for homeless and low-income individuals to detox from drug & alcohol abuse, enter long-term residential and outpatient recovery, and receive recuperative care following hospital stays. Once launched in it's entirety, The Recovery & Wellness Center plans to provide medically monitored detox, sobering mats for short-term recovery, an intensive 90-day resident recovery program, outpatient recovery services, and after care programs.
Short-term sobering & detox center
Opening in February 2018, Interfaith's short-term sobering and detox center will provide our North County neighbors with a safe place to take their first steps towards sobriety. Open for referrals 24-hours a day, this Recovery & Wellness program will help community members achieve immediate short-term sobriety and then transition into the 90-day residential program.
Intensive 90-Day Addiction Recovery Program
Open as of December 1, 2017, Interfaith's intensive 90-day addiction recovery program is a comprehensive residential and community-based mental health and substance abuse program. Located at Interfaith's Escondido headquarters, the 44-bed program also addresses the underlying challenges and struggles our North County low-income and homeless neighbors face. The ultimate goal of the program is for each recovering participant to graduate drug and alcohol free, with economic stability.
Outpatient Community-Based Treatment Program
In late 2018, Interfaith will launch an outpatient community-based treatment program. This program will also feature an after-care component.
Recuperative Care Program
Another way individuals looking to achieve sobriety can enter into the Recovery & Wellness Center is through Interfaith's Recuperative Care Program. This program provides emergency housing and support to veterans and non-veterans exiting local hospitals and recovering from an illness or injury. Located at the Hawthorne Veteran & Family Resource Center in Escondido, the program houses 20 homeless veterans and 12 homeless non-veterans at a time, and also provides access to comprehensive counseling and case management.
Clinical & Behavioral Health
Interfaith's Behavioral Health and Recovery programs work to improve the mental health and wellness of North San Diego County community members. Interfaith provides a variety of services including individual, group, couples, and family counseling to clients enrolled in our complementary housing and social service programs. Interfaith also provides sobering services and housing to help individuals successfully break the cycle of addiction. Crisis Management Interfaith offers counseling services to participants of the organization's housing and veterans programs to help community members achieve healthy and thriving lives. Addiction Recovery Services Interfaith's Sober Services Program, based in Escondido, provides supportive services and transitional housing for homeless and low-income individuals working to overcome addiction. Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Interfaith Community Services is focused on ending homelessness for all North San Diego County community members. Interfaith’s overarching goals are to 1) Fulfill basic needs for all people, 2) Create and sustain value-based partnerships, 3) Strengthen service-enriched housing for persons in crisis, 4) Expand recovery and addiction services, and 5) Promote self-sufficiency and empowered living.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
--Enhance the efficiency of systems to secure, organize, maintain, communicate, track, and distribute basic needs resources.
--Prioritize partnerships that provide resources to help our clients
--Nurture and maintain existing strong, beneficial relationships
--Advocate for resources and policy improvements that reflect proven best-practices to support Interfaith's mission and the clients we serve

--Explore ways to best utilize existing housing/supportive services
--Advocate for more homeless prevention funding and services
--Operate a detox and recovery center that addresses substance use disorders
--Create more robust employment specialty services, enhancing Workforce Development staff
--Expand upon existing Life Skills program
--Increase educational training and skills building opportunities through collaborations
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Interfaith provides both immediate safety net services and long-term, life-trajectory changing services for the most poor and vulnerable of our North San Diego County residents. Programs are organized into five (5) main areas: Self-Sufficiency and Supportive Services, Clinical and Behavioral Health, Employment and Economic Development, Recovery and Wellness, and Housing Services, all designed to overlap so that clients have access to as many resources as necessary for their individual situation.
Building on nearly 40 years of empowering homeless and low-income community members, Interfaith Community Services has grown to become the most comprehensive social services agency in North San Diego County. Our diverse network of faith communities, volunteers, donors, businesses, government, and non-profits partner together to most effectively and efficiently "help people help themselves".
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
During the 2018-19 fiscal year, Interfaith Community Services empowered nearly 17,000 community members to establish a pathway towards self-sufficiency, providing a wide array of comprehensive social support services for low-income and homeless families, individuals, children, youth, seniors, veterans, and persons with disabilities. This included providing services to 4,261 children and 782 veterans. In the fall of 2018, Interfaith launched its Housing 2019 campaign, an 18-month initiative aimed at preventing and ending homelessness for 2,019 community members by helping them to retain or obtain safe, secure, long-term housing. The organization surpassed this goal by housing or preventing homelessness for 2,048 community members, including 131 veterans, from July 1, 2018 through December 31, 2019.
