Context Notes
We opened a health-centered library in Morton, Washington, which did not have a library. We serve adults primarily but have materials suitable for older children for research and general education.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
The Foundation for Health Research (FHR) has fulfilled the vital need for education outside the classroom setting in a rural area by opening the NHF Memorial Library. It is a library that is open to the public for research onsite or checking out books devoted to health.
We have room to expand here and look forward to a capital grant to add space for in-house researchers and writers in residence and more library space as we add to our prestigious collection through donations and purchases.
Despite the fact Morton, Washington, where the NHF Memorial Library is located, has infrastructure such as banks and grocery stores, this logging community has never had a library and certainly not one as unique as this one! The excitement in our community is palpable.
FHR is committed to educating the public on all aspects of health. We will hold classes on various topics of concern to our demographic, host book clubs, and encourage book reviews for publication to the FHR website and to the Health Freedom News magazine. Our goal is to expand the book review team from our current list of volunteers and to continue adding them to the FHR website along with a quarterly newsletter.
We have a strategic plan to expand the NHF Memorial Library into healthcare practitioners' offices globally with books on health available in every language. This will introduce a new model of healing whereby practitioners partner with patients and clients for prevention of disease and healing through shared, onsite education and therapies.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Through our sister organization, the National Health Federation (NHF), we have a base of health-conscious individuals committed to education and implementation of learning to draw from. This built-in base forms our newsletter recipients and donor base and we will expand from there.
Many members of NHF are healthcare practitioners and will be excited to carry the work of the NHF Memorial Library into their own practices creating a new medical model by returning to the original term for doctor as "teacher" in order to partner with patients and clients for true healing, health, and prevention through education.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
FHR has dedicated staff working on implementation of our vision for global branches of the NHF Memorial Library to be installed in healthcare practitioner's offices.
We have attracted volunteers to help administrate the library from the ground up: installing bookcases, organizing books into sections in the building, and uploading data into library software to create an operational system for users.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
The Foundation for Health Research (FHR) has fulfilled the need in a rural area for a library, open to the public for research onsite or checking out books devoted to health. Despite the fact Morton, Washington, where the NHF Memorial Library is located, has infrastructure such as banks and grocery stores, this logging community did not have a library. We have opened this library in an optometry office from the ground up, installing bookcases, investigating and implementing library software, and consulting with librarians to lay a successful foundation.
FHR has accomplished its 2021 goal of opening the library and it is operational using Library Thing software and Tiny Cat for checkouts. Morton and the surrounding communities have access to this fine, unique health-related library including research options for long-term projects through a writers and researchers program in nearby Mossyrock, Washington.
