Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

With over 44,000 homeless in LA County, our aim is to work to increase the affordable housing supply and services for homeless persons and families. In our S. Mark Taper Foundation Shelter Resource Bank we continue to ensure agencies serving the homeless have the resources they need to fulfill their missions.

Shelter Partnership works collaboratively with homeless service providers, state and local governments, and community-based organizations to alleviate and end homelessness in Los Angeles County. Increasing affordable housing availability, designing and implementing programs, researching and advocating for best practices, and developing resources for community organizations and the homeless population are strategies we employ to achieve are mission.

Collectively, our staff has decades worth of experience in the affordable housing and homeless arena. Our relationships with key agencies and strong reputation with community organizations allows us to be more effective in our work. Our award winning S. Mark Taper Foundation Shelter Resource Bank is housed on land owned by Shelter Partnership allowing us to keep operating costs low.

Since its founding in 1985, we have remained a pillar of support for the hundreds of homeless service providers in Los Angeles as well as a reliable distributor of basic needs items for LA's homeless population.

Data
  • We disaggregate data to adjust programming goals to keep pace with changing needs of the communities we support.
  • We employ non-traditional ways of gathering feedback on programs and trainings, which may include interviews, roundtables, and external reviews with/by community stakeholders.
  • We have long-term strategic plans and measurable goals for creating a culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
Policies and processes
  • We use a vetting process to identify vendors and partners that share our commitment to race equity.
  • We seek individuals from various race backgrounds for board and executive director/CEO positions within our organization.
  • We have community representation at the board level, either on the board itself or through a community advisory board.
  • We help senior leadership understand how to be inclusive leaders with learning approaches that emphasize reflection, iteration, and adaptability.
