Butterflies can have small range sizes and persist in smaller habitats, and persist in and around cities. In fact, many endangered species that have localized habitat needs are found only in urban and industrialized areas. UWG, along with its project partners, has contributed to the persistence and recovery planning for many species, ranging from a successful captive rearing program for the Palos Verdes blue butterfly to restoration projects that dramatically increased the occupied range of El Segundo blue butterfly to the petition that resulted in the listing of the Mount Charleston blue butterfly.
