Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
On the Road to Reconciliation Education Program
Each year, PCFF members facilitate over 800 classroom dialogues to more than 25,000 students throughout Israel and Palestine. These dialogue activities involve one Israeli and one Palestinian facilitator sharing their stories of bereavement and guiding the participants through a discussion about the conflict and the possibility of reconciliation. The program brings Israelis and Palestinians into the same room – often for the first time, which helps to undermine stereotypes, discover the humanity of the "enemy", and foster a deep empathy between Palestinians and Israelis.
History through the Human Eye (The Narrative Project)
Israeli and Palestinian NGOs and "change-agent” groups (e.g. social workers, journalists, grandmothers, etc.) participate in an exploration of the individual and national narrative of the other. Over the course of several months, participants experience the parallel narrative module made up of trust-building sessions, historical workshops, visits to significant places in the history of the other and the pairing off of an Israeli and Palestinian who exchange their personal narratives in a real and intimate way. The project also includes the establishment of the first Reconciliation Center in Israel and Palestine.
PCFF Women’s Group
Fifty bereaved Israeli and Palestinian women participate in this project which aims to increase women’s understanding of the role of women in the conflict and its resolution and especially in the reconciliation process as well as to gain a strengthen their own personal narratives in order to promote reconciliation. In 2013, the Women’s Group held a public event called Neighbors – Women Creating Reconciliation, attended by more than 1,700 Israelis and Palestinians that incorporated powerful storytelling through a photography exhibit (the Presence of the Void), culinary arts (Jam Session) and textile arts.
Crack in the Wall
Crack in the Wall (CITW) is one of the PCFF’s main social media tools, and is used to spread PCFF's voice and to reach a mass of people through online campaigns and activity. Facebook is a dominant and influential form of media among Israelis and Palestinians. Approximately 33% of Palestinians and around 45% of Israelis are active on Facebook, making social media a highly relevant and prime medium for accessing the Israeli and Palestinian communities with messages of reconciliation. Since it was launched in April 2012, CITW has provided a neutral platform for more than 17,000 people – the majority of them Israelis and Palestinians (half Israeli and half Palestinian). To date over 32 million unique users were exposed to the messages of CITW.
PCFF Youth Program
The PCFF Youth Program is a unique dialogue group that brings together young Israelis and Palestinians (ages 14-18). The program engages approximately 50 Israeli and Palestinian bereaved youth over the course of a year through social games, dialogue workshops, physical activities, Arabic and Hebrew language lessons, and joint creative projects and expressions of their learning. These activities aim at building trust, as well as a sense of connection to one another regardless of religious, cultural, national, or ethnic ties among the youth. Some activities are competitive, where mixed bi-national groups experience work together as teams. Because these youth are at an ideal stage of personal and social development for exposure to experiences that can challenge their prejudices and stereotypes, the youth program provides an ideal platform to empower, connect, and engage the next generation of leaders and policymakers.
