SAN DIEGO CHAPTER OF SWEET ADELINES INTERNATIONAL

Award-Winning 4-Part A Cappella Harmony

aka SAN DIEGO CHORUS   |   SAN DIEGO, CA   |  www.sandiegochorus.org

Mission

The SAN DIEGO CHORUS is an inspired group of women who sing a cappella 4-part harmony in the barbershop style. We are one of many chapters of SWEET ADELINES INTERNATIONAL and we compete in their regional and international competitions. We perform at various venues including assisted living facilities, schools, community and charity events. Membership provides opportunities to learn leadership and teamwork skills. These skills improve their confidence, help their careers, expand networking in their industry, and provide a constant source of joy in their lives, We spread this joy to young women by educating them about barbershop music and teaching them the skills to excel. There are choruses all over the United States and many other countries around the world.

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Youth in Harmony Day

This is an annual, free, one day event for 7th to 12th grade girls and boys to experience quality singing in the a cappella, barbershop style. The youth learn the music, sing together all day, then perform a concert for family and friends that evening. Adult choruses and quartets also perform to show the audience what experienced singers can do.

We work together with several other barbershop choruses to host this event. We receive grants to acquire and provide T-shirts, 2 meals, snacks and drinks, music, 8 clinicians, 2 directors and sound and lighting technicians for the education classes and concert. Volunteers help chaperone, run registration and serve meals during the day. Others sell tickets and usher for the show that night.

Students involved in music programs often achieve higher grades, excel in their studies, develop good teamwork skills and avoid bad behavior.
