What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Live Your Dream
This is a cash award given to women who are single heads of household who are enrolled in an undergraduate program or trade school. The Huntington Beach club gives this award to women who live in Orange County.
Dream It, Be It
Dream It, Be It is a mentoring program for girls ages 13-18 who face obstacles to success. Our club conducts a 7 week program which covers everything from overcoming obstacles to balancing stress.
Stop Human Trafficking
Members of our club attend the Orange County Human Trafficking Task Force Meetings and have become certified through Waymakers at different levels. We have provided victims of human trafficking with comfort kits which we created, baby supplies and more. In addition, we worked with the Salvation Army to furnish a room at Thatiana's House and created inspirational tiles to hang up in the rooms. We continue to support them by providing soft goods when needed. Each January, we dedicate our monthly program meeting to stopping human trafficking.
Dream Beyond
Soroptimist International of Huntington Beach believes in "going beyond the cash award." We created the Dream Beyond Program to adopt/support two former Live Your Dream awardees for our club's years, July 1 - June 30. We provide these women and their families with financial assistance, child care assistance, financial planning assistance and more. In addition, we make sure that every holiday and occasion is a joyous one for them.
Dolly Wakeham Memorial Grant
A former club member, when she passed away, left a small trust fund. Our club receives the interest from that fund and augments it with monies that we raise fundraising to provide two single moms and their children with emotional and some financial support throughout our club's year, July 1 - June 30. We assist in paying for unexpected expenses as well as extracurricular activities for their children, and we make certain that every holiday and occasion is a joyous one. For Christmas, the moms provide us with their wish lists and the members sign up to provide them with gifts.
Day of Empowerment
Soroptimist International of Huntington Beach, in partnership with the Huntington Beach Assistance League, provide a Day of Empowerment for 25 women who are single heads of their households. The Day includes a continental breakfast, a $100 shopping spree with 2 personal shoppers at the HB Assistance League's Thrift Store, hair & make up services provided by the cosmetology students from Golden West College, a workshop, lunch, sharing, a "SWAG" bag and offsite, licensed childcare services. The event is staffed by members of the Huntington Beach club as well as members of other clubs, friends and some of the CARE counselors & professors from Golden West College.
