What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

Policy-makers, educators, parents, and students are demanding support for climate literacy and justice in PreK-12 education. Yet, it is still a challenge for governments and local communities worldwide to prepare teachers to address climate change in their classrooms. A recent UNESCO survey found that, "While 95% of surveyed primary and secondary teachers felt that teaching climate change is important, less than 30% expressed a readiness to teach it.” Through its climate action education programs, Take Action Global (TAG) is helping school systems in an inclusive, equitable, and impactful way to prepare teachers to address climate with their students.

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Climate Action Schools

Imagine a world in which young people across seven continents connect virtually and solve one of the world’s most pressing challenges: Climate Change.

The Climate Action Schools Program is a paid, year-long project allowing schools, districts, and networks with students ages 5-18 to collaborate at local and global levels on environmental topics.

Over the course of the project, classrooms explore the causes and effects of climate change, develop solutions, and take action as a school community.

The Climate Action Project is a free 6-week project allowing teachers and students ages 3-21 to collaborate on environmental topics. Over the course of the project, classrooms will explore causes and effects of climate change and will have the opportunity to develop solutions and take action. In 2022, 3.5 million teachers and students across 149 countries participated in the program, which included the culminating event, Climate Action Day on November 4th. This project is supported by HH Dalai Lama, Queen Elizabeth II, Dr. Jane Goodall, world leaders and Ministries of Education across 20 countries. During the past years the project was featured by media across 45 countries including National Geographic, BBC and CNN.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Take Action Global believes that educators and students can become leaders of a movement to protect and secure the future through climate action education. Our goals include:

To improve instruction: TAG methods of teaching and learning are organized around principles of cooperation, collaboration, leadership, and action. Activities emphasize experiential learning across all content areas with every teacher a climate action educator and every student bringing unique ideas and skills.

To increase access to information, ideas, and opportunity: To equip students with the tools they need to meet this call to action as empowered learners, TAG is committed to ensuring that every classroom can equitably access new ideas, reliable information, and meaningful opportunities for engagement to take action for the world. TAG commits to reducing barriers to learning across language, technology, resources, and funding.

To provide shared, positive experiences: Something happens when people from different locations and different life experiences come together to create change. TAG’s teachers and students join in virtual exchanges and global collaborations and as they become united in an effort for taking on a problem as big as the climate crisis, they start to understand how in this world we all fit together.

Take Action Global has three strategies for helping school systems in an inclusive, equitable, and impactful way to prepare teachers to address climate with their students: 1) Partnerships, including for research, activism, and impact at scale; 2) Annual Climate Action Project and Climate Action Day, with a focus on student voice and agency; 3) Climate Action Schools, a network of schools around the world committed to school-wide action, an educator Community of Practice, and virtual exchanges.

Balance sheet

Fiscal Year: Jan 01 - Dec 31

SOURCE: IRS Form 990 info

The balance sheet gives a snapshot of the financial health of an organization at a particular point in time. An organization's total assets should generally exceed its total liabilities, or it cannot survive long, but the types of assets and liabilities must also be considered. For instance, an organization's current assets (cash, receivables, securities, etc.) should be sufficient to cover its current liabilities (payables, deferred revenue, current year loan, and note payments). Otherwise, the organization may face solvency problems. On the other hand, an organization whose cash and equivalents greatly exceed its current liabilities might not be putting its money to best use.
