We need to increase the quantity, recruitment, retention and advancement of Black doctors in New England (starting in Boston) so that the disparate healthcare outcomes in the Black communities in the area can improve. This requires: Advocacy in healthcare policies and systems; medical career development and mentorship; health and wellness (physical and mental) activities for the Black physician community and for the Black community residents.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Health & Wellness: Physical and Mental
Providing safe spaces, networking and learning opportunities that focus on the health and wellbeing of our members and our communities.
Black Physicians are subjected to workplace microaggressions; extended study and work hours; burnout; impostor syndrome; displacement from home; stress; anxiety; isolation; mental and physical health distress; high debt; cost of living stress and more career disadvantages. A number of chronic healthcare inequities are especially persistent in Black communities. Black communities have better healthcare outcomes when Black doctors are present.
NEMA develops safe spaces for Black physicians to have voice and address their challenges. Black physicians are provided access to trusted resources, information, and cultural outlets. Black communities have access to the knowledge base, skills and motivation of the Black physician community. More Black physicians are recruited, retained and advance in New England. Black communities have better healthcare.

Balance sheetFiscal Year: Jun 01 - May 31
The balance sheet gives a snapshot of the financial health of an organization at a particular point in time. An organization's total assets should generally exceed its total liabilities, or it cannot survive long, but the types of assets and liabilities must also be considered. For instance, an organization's current assets (cash, receivables, securities, etc.) should be sufficient to cover its current liabilities (payables, deferred revenue, current year loan, and note payments). Otherwise, the organization may face solvency problems. On the other hand, an organization whose cash and equivalents greatly exceed its current liabilities might not be putting its money to best use.
