What we aim to solve
Lack of inclusivity in Christian congregations: there is a need for congregations that are explicitly inclusive, anti-racist, and committed to social justice. These values may not be prioritized or openly stated in all Christian congregations, which can lead to exclusion and discomfort for those who seek these principles in their spiritual communities. Religious trauma and harmful practices: address the harmful and damaging practices within Christian congregations that can lead to emotional and psychological trauma. Difficulty in finding congregations that align with individual values: it's difficult for individuals to locate congregations that align with their specific values, such as being LGBTQIA+ affirming.

What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
nuFoundation's goal is to leverage technology to empower inclusive, anti-racist, and social justice-oriented Christian congregations to adapt and thrive in a rapidly changing social and cultural context.
To achieve this, nuFoundation is dedicated to:
Building a Network: Facilitate the growth of an interconnected network of communities that share progressive Christian values. This includes being inclusive, anti-racist, LGBTQIA+ affirming, and committed to social justice.
Promoting Inclusivity: Encourage and aid congregations in becoming more inclusive and open, helping them align with the needs and values of diverse populations and ensuring that all individuals feel welcome and respected.
Providing Tech Solutions: Develop innovative and effective technology solutions that are tailored to the specific needs of Christian congregations. This includes the nu.community church search engine, the volunteer portal, and a partner portal.
Disrupting Religious Trauma: Strive to challenge and change harmful practices within Christian congregations that can lead to religious trauma, working to promote healthier, more positive religious experiences.
Through these efforts, nuFoundation aims to foster thriving congregations that deepen people's relationship with God, enhance their connections with each other, and contribute meaningfully to the flourishing of their communities and the world.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Developing a Suite of Technology Products: nuFoundation is developing a range of technology products that cater to the specific needs of congregations. For example, they have developed nu.community, a church search engine that helps individuals find churches that align with their values. They've also developed qVault, a volunteer portal, and a partner portal. These products are designed to facilitate the operations of congregations and help them connect with their communities.
Leveraging Data: By gathering and analyzing data on congregations and communities, nuFoundation is working to disrupt religious trauma and promote more inclusive practices. This data-driven approach allows them to measure the impact of their initiatives and make evidence-based decisions on future developments.
Partnerships and Collaboration: The partner portal suggests that nuFoundation is fostering partnerships with congregations. Through collaborations, they can work directly with congregations to understand their unique needs and tailor their solutions accordingly.
Promotion of Inclusive Practices: nuFoundation is actively promoting inclusivity, anti-racism, and social justice within congregations. They are likely doing this through their technology products, partnerships, and advocacy efforts.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Technical Expertise: As a tech duo, co-founders Adam Evers (developer) and Will Remigio (designer) have the knowledge and skills to develop a variety of technology products. They've already demonstrated this by building platforms like nu.community and qVault.
Innovative Thinking: The founders' backgrounds in the tech sector also mean they have a good grasp of how to use technology in innovative ways to solve problems and meet the needs of congregations.
Passion and Commitment: The founders' personal commitment to their mission and their willingness to work on nuFoundation in their spare time demonstrate a high level of dedication. This drive will help them overcome challenges and stay focused on their goals.
Collaboration and Partnership: nuFoundation is focused on collaboration and partnership. It's part of our DNA. Collaborative partnerships will expand our reach, provide additional resources, and give us valuable insights into the needs of the congregations we serve.
Embracing Modern Tools: nuFoundation has a willingness to embrace modern digital tools like Slack, GSuite, and AI models like ChatGPT, which will boost our productivity, efficiency, and capacity to deliver on our mission.
Scalability: With a database of over 1200+ churches on our nu.community platform, we have demonstrated the ability to work at scale. As we continue to grow and develop, our reach and impact could expand significantly.
Understanding of the Field: The founders' clear understanding of the needs of progressive Christian congregations, and our focus on inclusivity, anti-racism, and social justice, positions us well to develop solutions that are both effective and welcomed by their target communities.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?

- We review compensation data across the organization (and by staff levels) to identify disparities by race.
- We ask team members to identify racial disparities in their programs and / or portfolios.
- We analyze disaggregated data and root causes of race disparities that impact the organization's programs, portfolios, and the populations served.
- We disaggregate data by demographics, including race, in every policy and program measured.
- We have long-term strategic plans and measurable goals for creating a culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
- We use a vetting process to identify vendors and partners that share our commitment to race equity.
- We have a promotion process that anticipates and mitigates implicit and explicit biases about people of color serving in leadership positions.
- We seek individuals from various race backgrounds for board and executive director/CEO positions within our organization.
- We have community representation at the board level, either on the board itself or through a community advisory board.
- We help senior leadership understand how to be inclusive leaders with learning approaches that emphasize reflection, iteration, and adaptability.
- We engage everyone, from the board to staff levels of the organization, in race equity work and ensure that individuals understand their roles in creating culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
